The new Scarlet video with Jackie Greene on TRI's site is proof Weir is on top of his game.

When I went and saw Furthur this past tour I thought the same thing about Weir's playing. Just fantastic.

Totally agree! Not only his playing, but his vocals, as well. These TRI vids kick ass...I love his rhythm comping on New Speedway with that fat hollowbody Gibson jazzbox, along with those high harmony backing vox...what a treat!

I have to agree. His latest tone is incredible too.

Although, I prefer the ES335.

You hear Jay at the end yell Thank You! I think that delay is a big part of that rich tone too.

We all get better with age as long as we keep playing!

Anyone got the link for this? It doesn't seem to be under 'Video Archive.'

He sure is! What is he playing there, Gibson L5? Nice guitar, but no matter what guitar he plays they all have the same tone, unless he is playing an acoustic. Makes me wonder why he has so many in his rotation; Modulus, Modulus Strat, Pepto Strat, 335, especially switching so much between the Gibson 24.75 scale and a Strat 25.5 scale?

I agree - seems like his hands and his rig contribute more to his sound than the guitar he plays.

Not sure about his electric playing because I've always had a hard time hearing him in the mix, but his acoustic work, and his vocals are at an entirely new level. This is based in part from watching videos and simulcasts from TRI. I was very very impressed with the work that site.

I agree, his playing the last few years is just phenomenal! I'd say his style now is almost completely different from the old Grateful Dead stuff, and functions very differently in the music than any traditional "guitar part". It actually bears little resemblance to "guitar playing", lol. Some shows he can be a bit lackluster, but when he's on fire and turned up in the mix, he f*cking rages. The last "The Dead" show, Rothbury '09, is the best example of this that I know of.
