What would you ask him?

I'm debuting a radio show on September 27th on Penn's Peak Radio. It's a classic rock deep cuts sort of show, with a focus on requests. That's commercial radio for you. Anyway, DJ's typically interview artists that play shows at the Penn's Peak venue. Melvin Seals & JGB will be coming there to play on October 6th, and I asked the talent director at the station if I could interview Melvin or someone else from the band live via phone. She called his agent, and we are looking at the date of the interview WITH MELVIN to be October 4th! I'm incredibly stoked, as I listen to the real JGB all the damn time. I have a while to think about questions, but I'd love to hear your input!

He's got a killer interview out there where he talks about his audition for the JGB and other stuff, some great stories in there. He lived in San Fran and knew John Kahn, but barely knew who Jerry was! I don't have a link handy but you definitely have to read it first.

Thanks so far to everyone! I love you all.. I want to ask Melvin what his best memory of Jerry was... His musical beginnings originate from playing in church... I wonder if there are any churches where we can hear Melvin rockin' "Mighty High" or "My Sisters and Brothers"?

It'd also be interesting to know how Jerry prepped the band for a show - did he give out the song list and that's how it went down? or was it more spur of the moment?

Ask him about the time the JGB played on the USS CARL VINSON in Alameda. How that all came about.

i'd love to know if he considered, or was asked, to take brent's place. i recall reading that they were looking to get away from the b3, and i've heard the whole high harmony argument...but i can't help but think that melvin might have been a welcomed and inspired addition to the band.

or, were those two worlds that jerry didn't want to overlap? i always looked at jgb as a therapeutic and centering experience for garcia...i have to wonder if the musicians in jgb saw a noticeable change (for the better) in jerry from when they got him fresh off a gd tour to after he had settled in with jgb for a little bit.

Id ask him what inspired him to continue playing with the JGB and that material as oppose to starting a new project or joining another one. Hes an incredibly talented keys player.
