If you could play with any drummer you wanted, who would it be? Primarily for bass players, but everyone can join in! My choice: Roy Haynes

Excellent choice. I got to see Roy Haynes in person about 12 years ago, drove through a nasty blizzard to get there - a MN blizzard not a MA "blizzard"... my car made it, my buddies' turned back. He was in a superstar band with Chick Corea, Christian McBride, a pretty famous current trumpet player whose name escapes me, a New Orleans guy, and Kenny Garret - and Roy and Kenny were my two favorites. Absolutely mind-blowing drumming, and he had to be in his 70's.

Maybe this is short-sighted but other than Billy K, I would pick the one that's in my band. He listens as well as any drummer I've ever played with and plays just the right parts IMHO. Everyone who he's ever played (other groups/sit ins, etc) with has had nothing but very positive things to say about him and always compliments how well he listens. He does not play loudly and he tends to play it as he's heard it done as he's never taken a lesson in his life. If you want to hear him, click the link below.

I would choose a jazz drummer or John Molo. I find that jazz drummers have really good rhythm and finesse. I love Molo's playing.

The drummer from Dave Mathews Band. He makes them all sound good. I still remember when Dave Mathews opened up for the Dead in Vegas, remembering his unreal drumming/solo. Never like the DMB music much, but God he can play the drums.

I'm a fan of any drummer who can play jam-band material with a snare volume that doesn't make me involuntarily wince at the rate of 128 beats per minute or whater it is.

Not that I could play with him, but my choice would be Keith Carlock. He is outstanding. Watching him play with Steely Dan is something not to be missed.
