when i kill deer i use everything. Hide for rug, hang the head, legs for gun rack, meat to eat, nothing is to waste, thats how it should be

here's a good story involving the types of hunters i don't agree with.

it was my cousin's bachelor party and it started mid day at my grandpa's farm. the event. a barrel and trap shooting. well a contest started up. about 30 guys lined up playing knock out. a clay goes up and if the first guy misses it he can be knocked out by the next guy. well none of these guys would ever guess the bearded, pony-tailed, hippie would win the contest twice and walk away with 40 bucks. that was great. anyways once the beer began disappearing people started getting rowdy. shooting random shit, etc. so my dad and i took off. these were the guys who exemplified the macho, gun toting, trophy hunting to make up for a lack of any true manhood, idiots who make all hunters look bad. i'm glad i left, but we hooked up again later and drove a busload around the county, got sloshed, and celebrated the badgers national hockey title

Was this party Dick Cheney was at?

thank god no one has brought up a sensitive subject like abortion or the dangers of being a democrat
this for me is the most fun and interesting thread of the year that isn't musically oriented....wonder what we will be arguing about next November

Maybe I was wrong to say toking and hunting mix well. Guns and drugs...sounds like something that Hunter S would have liked to be involved in.

i have tried some of his antics. like hitting a golf ball with a wedge and trying to shoot it. i would say if your able to control yourself well while high then i guess hunting while doing so is your choice, but you would have to live with the consequences if something happened. you'd have to do the same if something happened while completely sober too. personal choices i guess. now acid, yay, and other substances while driving and using a gun is another thing. that's only for the best of us "you're a f'ing pig." I am currently reading and enjoying McNally's Long Strange Trip. It's great, can't recommend it highly enough. Anyway, learned this little tidbit about the dead and deer hunting.

While living in Olompali during summer '66, a former Miwok Indian place in Marin County, they frequently hunted deer (for food) using .22's. The book also describes a funny little anecdote where Bill almost shoots Bobby by accident.

PS - I haven't read all of the posts, just scanned, so sorry if this is a repeat.

I'm another who has hunted since I was a little kid. Down here in South Texas we have so many deer piled up on the side of the roads it is disgusting. My dad now lives out in the country so we can hunt year round on his place. The Game Warden told us a few years ago that there are 60,000 too many deer in his county alone. They have been trying in Texas to do away with the bag limits and season. Deer Season has become so ingrained in local economies that nobody eles will support that idea.

For the record- the Dead were apolitical mother fuckers, who i am sure never thought about the moral implications of killing animals, for which, of course, there are none. I was a raw food vegan for a year and i can honestly say it was the worst decision i ever masde. It turned me into a pontificating hippie asshole. As a result i changed my ways and realized i am just a pothead who likes meat. Also, for all you dead head vegitarians- the dead ate only meat while in Los angeles recording their first record.

The second point i would like to make is that the second amendement is bullshit. Our right to bear arms is strictly a traditional one. This government is already tyrannical, and it has been so long befor Bush No. 2 arrived in office. No matter how high powered your rifle is it is no match for an apache helicopter with scud missiles or a tank. We Americans will never get their country back. It has aready been bought and paid for by both parties of the ruling class. It may be time to leave.

I remember when I lived in New Mexico there was a big story about these two Indian brothers who played for a local high school football team. They were studs and led the team to the state play offs for the first time in decades. Turned out the play off game was the first day of hunting season which was a spiritual event for their tribe. The brothers skipped the game for the tribal hunt and their team lost. They were interview and said it was a no brainer for them to skip the game for the hunt.

It may be time to leave.
