Hey, your an Eagles fan, what are your thoughts about Michael Vick? As a loyal Hokie (and veteran of 20+ years and 3 degrees), it has been sad to see him turn into the villain of the league. While there were rumors of that kind of thing going on when he was here - he did not have the thuggish reputation that his brother had and for the most part stayed out of trouble. If anything, he had the reputation of being kind of a mama's boy. He brought his trouble on himself and did some horrendous things but do you think he deserves a new start? Can you root for this guy?

I love animals -lagomorphs- too ....no time to dwell on his past ...
But it is past history now ....
The feeling is he will be traded for a nice pick after the season ... hopefully ... I thought he would have a better season then he is having ...

Mortally wounded in the case of my Vikings. Ugh. I've been mentally preparing for the late-season and/or playoff collapse all year but never thought it'd be Peterson!

I'm sure they do - sports radio up there is pretty brutal to guys who didn't do the awful stuff he did. It's funny the only game where he looked like he might be a factor was the Atlanta game. Being away from the game and in the way he was has to take a pretty big toll.

Rusty - Peterson has fallen off lately - no blocking? Or is he just not getting it done?

Michael Vick: I always thought he was some sort of wannabe thug and/or a jerk. It doesn't surprise me at all that he got mixed up in something as repulsive as dogfighting, nor that he wasn't smart enough to lay off the weed when he was out of the joint waiting for trial. (pun intended) It is equally unsurprising that the guy's ego is sufficiently huge that he spent all his money and then some on fancy houses and thug-cars, nor that the experience of going to prison has failed to instill a sense of reality in him. Despite being a convicted felon and getting on in years, he apparently still thinks he is going to be pulling 8 figures a year for the next 20 years in the NFL, leading him to think that he shouldn't have to give any of his bling back to cover at least some of his debts. Oh well, I am sure we all have our personal short-comings, I know I have mine, I just like to think that mine are less blatant and disgusting, but I could be wrong there. In other words, I have a strong personal dislike for this fellow on many levels.

That said, he was a tremendous athlete, and although I never thought he was the greatest throwing quarterback, his explosiveness running could be game-changing. I had high hopes for his performance with the Eagles, and was hoping they would let him return some kicks. Unfortunately, that did not pan out. It looks to me like the guy has lost more than a step, and is nowhere near the athlete he once was.

As far as rooting for him, I was hoping he would help the Eagles, that is about as close to rooting for him as I think I can muster. He limped off the field on Sunday with some sort of thigh injury, and given my personal dislike for him and my disappointment with his performance, if that is the last time I see him in an Eagles uniform I will be just fine with it.

Good points Mick - I find it hard to root against anyone who made to the pros from Virginia Tech - even when some of them play for the Redskins, or in this case, the Eagles and even when some of them do stupid stuff. I love my school, I love my town, I love football (not as much as baseball - but that's for another post), our head coach is a genuinely good guy and has turned the program from a joke to contenders. Though, any successful program is going to have guys who get in trouble - DUIs, drugs, other stupid stuff. When you combine young kids with fame that just happens. I am by nature a very forgiving person and willing to look past imperfections. Vick has been a real tough one for me. I have never seen anyone do the things he did on a college football field - he did some of this in the pros but not as consistently. I was also sickened by the things he did - the cruelty with which those animals were treated was way past where I would draw the line of forgive and forget. I still have fond memories of him as a player but these are impossible to separate from the awful things he did.

The Missus is a big Eagle fan, she cannot abide with Vick. She was stunned when he signed with Philly. It causes grief when he takes the field.
The scenes from his house were played alot here in DC on the news. Pretty bad. I have to wonder if I did it would I get my job back when i got out of prison? Prolly not anywhere near. I dunno?
I am not for or against the Eagles so I dont have strong feelings. It would make football sunday easier if he played elsewhere, at least in my house. I will not be sorry to see him leave Philly.

I do hope Mcnabb brings a super bowl win before toooo long, geeeeezzz.
