On a side note, this is my break from writing about John Quincy Adams and the effect the slave power had on the direction of american politics--Shoot me, i'd rather be strumming-could that, by the way, be a bumper sticker kind of like the i'd rather be golfing one. I cant think of a player who was more inventive than Hendrix.He gets bonus points for being there at the beginning of it all.You couldnt even get unwound strings till the early 60s.No high E,even.

Les Paul and Link Wray were probably more inventive and important to the evolution of the electric guitar than Hendrix.

But I don't think you can ever call Hendrix overrated, you may not like him but thats opinion not fact.

I just found out about Les Paul about a year ago.I saw a cool doc. on pbs about him.
I love the guy.Invented multi tracking and all that.Love the speeded up shit!

First off let me just say I dont care for trey that much. I think he is a good guitarist but I RARELY listen to Phish. And when I do its only a handful of songs. So bash Trey all you want lol I can care less. BUT aaaanyways. I wouldnt say all guitarists are equal but I can damn sure guarantee you he wasnt the most inventive. Did he create all the genres out there right now? NOO So how can he be the most inventive. Now I dont like it but look at Emo and Black metal and all that shit. They took music and totally tweaked it. Look at the Disco Biscuits. They do shit no one really does. Look at Jerry. He did some things people never really touched up to that point. Alot of guitarists are just as inventive. Now let me say this. I think you got me all wrong. I never said Jimi wasnt inventive. He SURE AS HELL was inventive. Damn inventive in fact but not THE inventor. And Ill back up anyone who says he is definitely overrated. Great guitarist and certainly deserved an occupation out of it but he wasnt the fuckin best as everyone seems to think.

Hendrix was 40 years ago.In 40 years will Emo ,Black Metal, or said Disco Biscuits be mainstream?Or will they be forgotten?
I guess we are talking about 2 different things.I'm more into the Jerry thing myself.
But Jimi had one huge impact on the world.

Wow ok first let me just say that just because he is remembered after 40 years doesnt have anything to do with how inventive he is. Secondly influential and inventive are two TOTALLYYYY different things.

Star Spangled Banner was inventive and he is remembered because of it.
99 out of 100 electric guitarist have played the Hey Joe riff at some time or another and his version of Watchtower.Staying power.
All the cover bands thru the years you see at bars and partys,all cover Jimi.Not to mention all the real bands that have done his stuff.
I mean come on.
Maybe I shouldnt have said he was the most inventive guy Ever in rock.
Will you at least give him top 5?
Maybe you think hes overexposed and thats why you're down on him.
