Gotta love the horns, man...how can you hate them? It's such a nice treat to hear them, and the arrangements are fucking bad ass. I just look at it as further broadening my scope of instruments. In my mind, Phish/Trey have found a way to make horn sections cool again. Have you seen TAB live w/ the horn arrangements? You can't honestly say you dislike it, can you? I dunno....it's good music and I appreciate it.

Actually i loathe horn sections that sit in with bands...except with phish/trey band

I love it when people refer to the fans of a band as one solid block of people. in this moderen day and age shouldn't we look at individuals and judge thier actions without condeming thousands of other peole at the same time, the police call it "profiling" i think the people that jugde huge groups of people at the same time are really puting a bad seed out there

Theres a great guitar player issue where many different players are interviewed and trey is one of them. in the interview he talks about theory and concepts that he uses when he jams. He mentions using the "dorian" mode. at this time i didn't know what modes were so i brought the article into my bass teacher and he explained it to me. if i can find the issue's date i will post it.
Thank you Shakedown 04092. I was going to say the same exact thing about "i never tried to understand" but I felt like i had already said quite a lot about various things people were saying on this board. I picked the stanger as my handle because not only is 2 souls in communion one of my faveorite dead songs, but i am new to this online community and have never posted anything before. so thank you for the encouragement.

ok sarraqum, I couldn't find the interview, but I did cut and paste this section from wiki for you, it describes the modes and other concepts he uses related to the genres of music i mentioned earlyer, thank you for your intrest in what i was saying

Trey uses barre chords extensively, including open voicings of minor seventh, minor ninth, and minor thirteenth chords in addition to the sharp ninth chords associated with blues-based guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix. He incorporates exotic chord progressions and voicings, chord substitutions, ghost notes, and rhythmic scratching."

I have enjoyed their music for sure, but I never drove more than 25 miles to see them ever, they don't move they way GD does, but they are a really great band.

I don't know what the similarities are but I can tell you the differences, mainly one has lyrics they sing that you actually want to listen too, (thank you Bob Hunter)and vocalists that can sing, and one has lyrics I have no interest in, and vocalists that are well imho laughable, , and my 1st phish show was 2/14/91, ya know when they gave there tour car away during the show!
