Kinda wonder how a Quilter Microblock 45 (or EHX 44 Magnum) would sound with an SMS or FYD TRP in front of it. Even smaller/lighter than the DCM200L.

I tried both with my Alembic F-2B preamp. Couldn’t get nearly enough clean headroom in a band situation (I was looking for an emergency backup).

Unless you're just going to let the SMS sit out unprotected, because the DCM200L is only 4 lbs. in weight, the Microblock 45 itself is just shy of a half pound, and 1 versus 2 U in a rack = only about an inch and a half difference, in my view, the size and weight savings from replacing a DCM200L with a Microblock would be trivial while the volume and tonal differences significant.

Though discontinued, at least the MicroBlock 45 can be easily found compared to the DCM200L.

This is true and relevant for a new purchase.

Instead of the now discontinued Quilter MicroBlock 45, you might want to check out its replacement, the Interblock 45. Looks to be a lot more tweakable and flexible, though I have yet to try one out.
