I would propose Richard Thompson. Interesting style on both electric and acoustic.

i'll have to go with young guns Robert Randolph and Derek Trucks

As far as the older guys go, buddy guy for sure, warren haynes, john scofield, fareed haque and john mclaughlan

Plus some unmentioned names!
Jimmy Page (how the hell was he not mentioned yet???)
John Butler (if you don't know him, you should)

a lot of other named guitarists belong up there too, many of you mentioned some great guitarists

but Bobby Weir? NO. I respect his work with the dead, but as guitarists go, he is nowhere near the level of the greats

Maybe you could help us out with just who Tommy Emmanuel is...

I just can't see what others do in R.Randolph. I saw him once and it got old in a hurry.

I hate to say it, but I kind of agree. I do think what he is doing is very cool and I think he's extremely talented at what he does, but I am not that interested in it. He doesn't do much for me. I'll keep listening, though, because hopefully he'll hook me one of these days.

I forgot to mention, there's a pretty smokin' guitarist in the Bay Area right now who plays with The Flip Squad. His names is Jackson Haddad.

If you haven't heard them, check them out. SERIOUSLY. They have some pretty smokin' originals.

Whilst Leo is top drawer, I prefer to go back to the source - John Fahey and Davy Graham. If I could only listen to those two acoustic guitarists I wouldn't be too down about it!!
