If they do this April and May tour, it would be nice if they got Bruce involved, he could fill in a lot of space left by the Big Man. In my opinion, the best guitar sound was the Other Ones (if my memory serves me well) tour with MK and Kimock rounding it out with Weir. Bruce was in this lineup as well.

I heard from an inside source that they are trying to do it at THE SPECTRUM!!!!! and you're right fretful, it was raised to the rafters in celebration of the 50th show played at the spectrum (the boyz played a total of 53 there) If memory serves it is a stealy with the # 50 in the middle

I too loved the MK and Kimock incarnation (I posted it on the other thread tho). Saw almost the whole 2000 tour. 98 was sweet too! And as for the Spectrum, that's a big maybe isn't it? They're planning to demo it next year.

After thinking about the fact that they put a date (10/13) out for a while now and did so way ahead of time but were uncertain on venue, I thought there must be a reason for that.

Maybe there's going to be an Obama apearance in Pa of some sort that day and they just don't know if it's gonna be in Pgh or Philly yet?

As for venue, they could certainly play the Spectrum despite it's dilapidated state. They might also use the FU Center, unless there's a Criers game. The Mellon arena isn't much better anyhow. And, that's where it would likely be if in Pgh.

My guess is it depends entirely on where this speech/fundraiser is held that day.

As for $$$, my guess is it'll be regular prices if it's in Pgh...maybe more in Philly.

As for the banner--they desereve one after playing the Rectum 50 times. I saw them there 10--good energy in that place.

If I were a gambler, I'd put my money on Philly 10/13.
Then 2 shows next summer at StarLake!

I was talking with a friend who said that it is going to be at State College. Forgot the name of the theater but he said capacity was around 15k. Not sure how reliable his info is, but I do believe he has some pretty reputable sources.

He interviewed Mark Karan before RatDog played in Rochester a little while back. I guess Karan was very happy with the outcome and got my friend backstage. Got to meet Warren, Karan, Bobby, all of 'em. Said he had a puff with Bobby on the side of the stage while Karan, Haynes, and Trucks were ripping up The Weight. Must have been cool. Anyhow, he got an email from Dennis McNally. I guess McNally got hold of the Karan interview and figured he'd get in touch. McNally will be my friend's source for tickets. I'm assuming the State College info came from him, but I really have no idea.

I'm disappointed that Warren will be playing lead. I think he's a great guitarist, but I never thought he meshed well with The Dead. They should swap him for Herring.

Too much bad karma in Philly....they played Corrina 2x in 3 shows the last time I saw them there. The last Pittsburgh GD show was sickleberry - even with just Vinny. Jerry & Bob were en fuego post-space 2nd night at Star Lake. Better karma here. WE never threw snowballs at Santa!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Bryce Jordan.
