Mountain Jam is based on the melody from the Donovan song "There is a Mountain". The GD jam on this theme in Alligator... so I guess they went through the same thought process prompted by the original poster.

Down by the River has been jammed out HARD by the late great Roy Buchanan
I saw Phish and Neil Young play a 25+ minute version at Farm Aid 98.

I've heard that the Allmans actually got the idea from the AOTS Alligator (the only one I know of where the theme is so recognizable)

JGB actually played this in 91 at Knickerbocker. Jerry had to leave the stage to get his guitar fixed and ended up coming back on with a yellow strat, i believe it was a strat but it was for sure yellow..they jammed for 5 mins or so while he was back stage...

anyone else at this show?
That would almost have to be Wolf viewed from a distance. Last known sighting: Mardi Gras '93 Oakland

Any Beatles song... their main fault is all their recordings are so short!

Anthem of the Sun was released before the Allmans even got their band fully together. So the theme was put out first by the Dead and not ABB... yet I am sure you are right in the fact that the Dead got a lot of ideas from ABB.

My band jams out a lot of the songs already listed (low spark, Cortez, the core, time, feelin alright, etc) but I like to see others tried like Marquee Moon by Television and London Calling by the Clash and a bunch of those 70's/80's punkish songs that have NO jams.

We also jam on Lou Reed songs like Rock and Roll, Sweet Jane, Waiting for my Man, etc. probably much to Lou's chagrin!

Totally agree with yall on the beatles comments, they could have gone into some dark jams after some of their songs on the white albums

the warren and dmb jam of "cortez" is amazing, warren really seems to dig deep and find some creative tones. before I get bitched for mentioning "that (dmb)" name, go check it out on youtube
