of course... myspace... I hear that's a popular forum theezdaze. I'm the 'Jerry' in Ramblin' Rose (and Mystery Cats-OR, and formerly in the 1997-98 version of Paradise Waits) but I also love the bass- just had a blast doing a whole gig on bass last Saturday!

Looks like we'll be come and gone before the next one on your guys sched- 9/13. Thanks for the offer though!

9/8 SM is playing in Barrington and Bouk from PW is playing with us that show.

1201. Deadheads scolding other Deadheads for trying to come up with a solution to a legitimate concern having to do with the live music industry.

Obviously, nobody comes on this board to discuss 1-6; and if they did it would in fact be discouraged by the majority of folks who like to frequent this board as a dedicated place to talk about Grateful Dead music and how to play it.

So maybe you should take that trash talk over to rec.music.gdead where it will be... appreciated(?)

Tigerstrat - I'm sorry, but whining over who gets to use a name that is derived from a band's song hardly qualifies as significant in any sense of the word. You might also note that I didn't actually discuss the issues I listed, I simply suggested that in the grand scheme of things fighting over names doesn't amount to a pile of you know what.

The challenge we all face is to be in this world and not of this world. Yes, the dead and things dead related are kind, cool, and great; however, this hardly eliminates the problems going on outside the dead world - and yes, people use this forum to escape the realities of the world, but that still doesn't mean that those realities will not influence said discussions. Frankly, our ability (mine included) to "escape" the world or shut it out has always frightened me a bit.

Besides, if you really want to talk about legitimate musical industry issues, have we all paid hunter/garcia gd et al for the covers that we play on any given night? Have we sent checks to the remaining members when we make music and money (however great or small) off of their labors?

holy crap I appologize.
I am not trying to start a war, a fight or anything. I was looking to my peers in a board called r u kind. I figured even if I was being dumb people would be nice enough to say it in a nice tone. I think I stated that in a different way before. Try to imagine starting out as a grateful dead cover band, after 1 year of my joining changing gears and try to become an original band. this was again 1995. we went through the wringer as a band, I ended up with 2 plates in my head because I was the band van driver,(though the end result believe it or not was very kind and not in money, but love... )

2. I was only trying to protect what i believe was my hard work as a recorded artist.
3. I do not wish for conflict.
it was what can I do???. maybe a bit emotional. maybe a bit rushed.
but if it was your band and I was in your town how would you feel?

To give the band some credit ... a letter of appology was written to at least one person I know of by the band. That is well appreciated in calming down our people, and I personally thank you. It takes a big person to say they are sorry, especially in a situation like this. right on.

First of all, the dude never said he named his band after the dead song..and correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the song you are refering to called "mississippi half step uptown toodeloo"? If he called his band "mississippi" or "toodeloo", you'd pry not accuse him of stealing a name from a dead song. While were on the subject, do you know where the grateful dead took their name from? This is all immaterial man..Nothing in this life is truly original..A person who paints a sunset is copying it from the sky ect..

Second...Who are you to determine what is an important enough topic to bring to any forum? Just because something going on in someone else's life isn't particularly earth shattering to you, doesn't diminish it's importance..

I'm sure no one cares what i think becuase i don't have 10,0000 posts here but that's my opinion..

The guy comes in with a complex issue, for once one that DOESN'T have a "one word:'MIXOLYDIAN!'" answer to it. Flame away, but I just don't see why he or anyone that chooses to engage him on the problem needs to be belittled for it. Back to your regularly scheduled body count...
