how about a comedic movie/cartoon where Phil gets kidnapped by studio musicians, and the rest of the band has to work together to get him back before their next show. you know the same cheesy shit you see in every movie. But as you all know Jerry was hilarious in real life and so was Bobby, so it'd be perfect. doesnt have to be studio musicians tho , that was just a joke

how could they portray themselves or have actors portray them in a cartoon? after all Yellow Submarine is a cartoon...

I'd like to see something like "Birth of the Dead", with a film starting around 1964-5 in San Francisco. Some guest appearances by the Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother, Santana, etc. Spend a good time in the Acid Tests. Throw in a good '67 Other One, and I'll be happy.
Here was my first thought - kinda adolescence to adulthood.
Start it off in some smaller clubs in 68 with really bluesy jams and powerhouse sets (called manwhiches in another thread) but the real Pigpen R&B days.
Continue that onward to being signed and making Anthem and their experimenting and struggles
Their addition of TC and the direction change and Aoxomoxoa.
A short bits on: woodstock, altamont, & Trans Continental Pop Festival "Festival Express"
Coming back full circle to country and new songs for Workingman's.
The addition of Kieth and Donna, the band losing most remaining ties to R&B.
Closing with the band loading up for Europe. But it must have foreshadowing earlier in the movie about this desire!
I'd rather see a proper full on documentary with proper footage and interviews done on the band, one to really do it justice. Which is yet to be done anywhere in my view.
Knowing all the history as I do, I don't think I could sit through a performance of actors playing those parts and really enjoy it. I would always question the point.

The only thing that ever scared me about the Dead was all the fuck ups that started following them around and giving the scene a really bad 'image' in the public eye.
The only thing that ever made me angry was "I Fought The Law"
As for the movie, it will never be better than the one that plays nightly in my mind. We each have our own footage of what the band meant to us, that will never be topped.

this entire thing sounds like an awful idea to me, the grateful dead fan community is truely a community by making a movie and adding legions of fake fans that we most likely never appericate the true artisitc genius of this band it would destory the community so many of us true fans and the band have built
