THE BYRDS - Theres so much more to them than just Turn Turn Turn and Eight Miles High. Gene Clark a much underrated writer.

THE JAYHAWKS - Haunting, world wise lyrics and brilliant songs and harmonies to die for. Gary Louris(brilliant guitarist) and Mark Olson one of the great combinations.

THE BAND - Robbie's songs and guitar fills, Manual and Danko's soul. Garth and Levon the engine. Great songs.

THE WHO - Maybe the only band to rival the GD when it comes to playing live. Pete is a true genius always way ahead of his time.

UNCLE TUPELO - The best parts of Son Volt and Wilco all in one. Flawless recordings, short time span -long legacy. Best parts of punk thrown in with country and early Crazy Horse influences.

THE ROLLING STONES - Opened up loads of doors into the world of the blues and blues rock, which opened up to the world of Handrix, Cream and heavy rock.

I don't need to mention The Grateful Dead or the Beatles.


6 of the best solo artists:

BOB DYLAN - Most goes back to what he did or open our eyes to.

NEIL YOUNG - A force of nature. My personal favorite. The most powerful songwriter of the lot.

TOWNES VAN ZANDT - No one could write a sad song like Townes and no one dare live a life like his.

JACKSON BROWNE - One of the most intelligent songwriters there is.

JONI MITCHELL - We need a woman on here and who else can there be. Some of her songs became standards before she even released them herself.

TOM WAITS - Most original of the bunch. The weird guy on the edge of town. Great songs, so many so different.

FUCK the Beatles.

i also really dig classical music, though I rarely know the names of the composers or pieces I listen to. We have a sweet commercial free classical radio station in DC that I listen to alot. Classical music is a really interesting listen, the music definately goes places.

4) nothing else really comes close.

2.Bob dylan (listening to blood on the tracks, track 1 tangled up in blue rite now )

im not a huge beatles fan. i dunno, i like alot of their stuff more. but some of their stuff i cant stand to listen to, yet some of it i love (let it be, here comes the sun, get back, hide your love away)
