I don't think the talking has that much to play into it. there is something there for sure, but in the Richard episode after he decided to play on team Jacob (sorry my wife reads twilight), smoky said something like if you ever change your mind, I will be waiting.

so talking has something to do with it, but it isn't the end all be all. I think it just a perception thing. you can either perceive he is right and go along with, or perceive he is FOS. free will really

Ben and Miles, weren't they with the Flocke party? We haven't seen them in a few weeks. Did they get hit by the mortar rounds, I doubt it would have gone unmentioned. Or I am forgetting something about them, last I thought we saw them was right before the mortar rounds blew up what's her name.

Basically, where are they?

they haven't been shown for a while, but they both ran off with Richard to get explosives to blow up the plane.

I thought they were with the Flocke party. Remember they said something like "most of the people died and the rest fled into the jungle".

I am so looking forward to the series ending... way too addicting...

No, erock is right. Ben, Miles, and Richard went to find the airplane to blow it up. Question is, were they the ones who planted the explosives found last episode?

Besides more gratuitous violence, I thought the episode was pretty weak. Kind of got all Lord of The Rings on us for a little bit with the glorious cheesy music. Mommy issues too, etc. Lame.

Loved last night's! It's very easy to believe the contempt and hatred as 2 brothers from a fucked up mother, with fucked up rules, on a fucked up island with mommy issues could act like that.

My issues are that we weren't really told what "now you are like me" meant when Jacob's mom told him that. I assume it meant he could heal people. Not a big issue really. But where is the explanation of how Blackie became Smokie? All we saw was the SMoke coming out of the tunnel.

Also, where is the statue Jacob lives in? I thought that would haev at least been tied into last night as down there is where the smoke monster is summoned, not the tunnel. I guess I just want answers.

From a violence standpoint, episode was great. Spearing of the boar was nice as was the mom ramming Blackie's head into the wall and bashing their mom's head was also pretty good stuff.

In a previous episode , Jacob and Smokie are hanging and grilling fish on the beach by Jacobs statue pad. A boat appears on the horizon , one says to the other " you brought them here ".
Does this happen AFTER Smokie is killed and laid to rest in the cave ?
Does this mean his body will come back to life ?

I think that scene happened long after last night's stuff. Smokie was taking the form of the man in black in that scene as well as all others that have occurred after the man in black was killed.

This brings up an interesting point.

Are we saying that Smokie is not Jacob's brother and just takes his form? If so, how is it that when they are on the beach discussing the ship arriving, Smokie knows the rules his mother put on them both.

My guess is that Blackie didn't die in the tunnel, just his body. There is a piece of info missing here methinks.

I was thinking about this as well. The mother said the tunnel was all life, goo and evil. My initial thought was the smoke was the evil side of the dead brother....still trying to figure out what the good side would be though?

Following that line of thought it almost seems like Jacob screwed up big time! He gets all the powers (to make the rules) after drinking the wine....and the first thing he does is break his mom's rule ("I made it so you cannot hurt each other") by killing his brother....thus unleashing pure evil.....thanks Jacob! haha

I loved the episode but I am afraid the writing is getting sloppy. Too many things don't add up....who killed all those people and filled in the hole - the mother...doesn't seem to make any sense.

Mom said going in there was worse than death.

I believe smocke is the result of that and his spirit was released from his body but not allowed to pass over to the afterlife.

Surely they can hurt each other but cannot kill. I'm guessing semantics.

Life without a body is certainly worse than death....
