I was feeling lazy - once the routing starts I'll get the good camera out and start a new thread :-)

I'm beginning to get the SMS dialed in. It's been hard to find time to mess with it that isn't getting set up for a gig.

Here's a quick sample using my PRS CE-24. My WGD is in the shop getting the midi pickup issues ironed out and the new guitar is a month or so from being ready.

Here's the pathway: PRS middle position --> Lexicon MPX G2 --> SMS --> Mesa Mark III --> Mesa 1/2 open 2x12 cab. No distortion or Mutron.

similar thing with some delay:

sms sounds good. Why are you going into the Mesa Mark? as opposed to a power amp?

Yep, it's the reverb built into the SMS - every bit as good as the Lexicon IMHO (which is saying something) and much easier to dial in with only one knob - Brad really has made a nice preamp.

jdsmodulus - I'm running it into the Mark III's effects loop to bypass the Mesa preamp mainly because it's a great power section and I don't have to go out an buy one. I tried it out with my Crest CPX 2600 and a Mackie power amp but didn't like it as much as the tube amp - Jerry got a great tone with the solid-state Macs but I'm a tube guy and it's hard for me to use a solid state - too brittle for my tastes. When I get my new guitar w/Waldo's buffer in the next month or so I'll give it a more full test.

Cool! Im getting an SMS very soon into the new year...I too think I might change from a SS amp to a TA. I was thinking Mesa 2:100 but they are getting harder to find. I never thought of a Mark.

I looked at some Stereo Two:50s on eBay but decided that since I'm quitting my job to go back to school to finally write my dissertation that using something I had on hand was best as a poor college kid again. Brad said that if you're using an amp like I am you have to turn the output of the preamp way down since the effects loop doesn't like a really hot signal. I found it to be the case in practice. I'm really, really happy with it and highly recommend Brad's work!

Loved your sound - You would call it 'clean' ?
Me like.

Thanks Jedi! I haven't used the PRS much in the last 6 or 7 years but it's a sweet guitar. I found that the combined humbucker (middle) setting got the best Jerry tone. When I gigged regularly with it I mostly used the neck pu and coil tapped it for rhythm playing. Might have to play it for the NYE gig if the new one isn't finished and the WGD isn't back from the shop. It's about as simple a signal path as you can get. I don't generally like a lot of processing - a little delay, the Dr. Swamp distortion and the Mutron is about all I use anymore.

Have had my SMS for a year and couldn't be happier. Eventually, I got to the point where I starved the lows and cranked the highs to get the "sound". The reverb is sweet, simple and appropriate.

Thomas Lieber Amercian Beauty geetar w/Waldo TPC1 buffer > SMS >Macintosh MC250 amp> JBL K120 in a finely built Sound Scaper cab. Thanks Thomas, Waldo, Brad and Tracy for the impeccable craftsmanship and advice.

How's the Lieber? I think you might be the only one on this board who has one . . . pics?
