There's a great photo somewhere online with the 1967 Garcia posing with the 1967 Clapton... guess what year the pic was taken? Clapton's licks are tasty as hell, plus I would kill to have his singing voice.
Also- it's unconfirmed and unsupported by anything I've found, but I have a jam-session tape that supposedly is Garcia jamming with Hendrix in the backstage area at Woodstock (or the afterparty at Monterrey? or...???) ... it's definitely Garcia, and the other guitarist is either Jimi, or someone who had been hugely influenced by him in a very short span of time and learned a LOT of his feedback manipulation tricks: Garcia has his hard to mistake 1968-1970 sound, so Jimi had only been on most folks radar for a couple of years. I've heard some say that the "Jimi" guitarist is actually Elvin Bishop but it sounds so much like Jimi I want to believe it is. It's hard to identify the other players in the jam also, (plus the quality makes it sound like a 60's AUD) but it sounds like there might be two bassists in places. I hope there is an improved digital source for this jam out there somewhere.
