Its been over 20 years, but Maine is one of my favorite places I ever visited. I never lived there, but when I lived n the NE I played Ice hockey. I would travel all over the place, the states being so close together relatively. I loved Exeter New Hampshire too. I seem to remember there were lots of beautiful little towns and cities all over the place. and if that's not your thing, you are so close to some of the the coolest metro cities in the USA. If I had to describe Maine in my mine, its kinda like northern Cali, but you can't grow weed, and living is a whole lot cheaper. Be glad you are not moving to Mississippi, I've been trying to leave for 11 years, but its even CHEAPER to live here, and you can live like a king. Good luck, man if they give you hassel about your past, that is bullshit. I can't even count how many of my teachers were at the dead shows when I was a kid....

thanks for the heads up on the outlying areas raisingfreen. I thought South Portland was just part of Portland i didnt really know it was its own town.

Its one of the areas i have been checking most.

i'll start looking into Gorham next.

a friend of mine from cali just went on a vacation with her husband and son (toddler) and they freaked out in the art district. I dont know if this is a bad area or if they are just too uptight.

i am in process of getting credentialed and sending out applications to about 5 schools in the greater Portland area: Falmouth, Readfield, Sanford, Biddeford,etc.

thanks for all the help who provided it, it really helped us (me and the wifey) with our decisions.

Now to find a job, a place to live, and move by september.

I have been living in Maine for 6 years and I love it. My favorite guitar shop, Buckdancer's Choise is in Portland.

so i am conditionally certified, I put my applications out to 5 schools and i am heading to portland on the 25th for house hunting( and i hope an interview or 2).

Still at the substitute teaching thing, still loving Portland.

For those of you in the area, or who may pass through at some time:

check out the food cart i started over the summer. I have since gotten into catering and am looking into opening my own Taqueria (taco shop) that resembles what i miss from back home...

The Rip Gorge is a burly run... the 'Bec is Wally World under 8 grand.

The upper Kennebec is pretty cool, not Penobscot wild, but to be honest with you, the Chatooga and Upper Gauley were waaay more intense
the scenery, however, is second to none.
American River, or the Green are next on the list.
