We just got a zoom. We are playing Sunday and would like to record our set we are playing, we only get to play one set that night, 4 bands playing. The problem is the files are huge, how do you shrink them down? Do you have any advice with this unit you have learned over the different times you have used it?
- file size: if you don't want to upload to LMA section archive.org, set it to compress on lowest MP3 (128bps). should be about 60megs/hr. then you have to edit it down by song to make it smaller. i use audacity. bill uses other stuff. we record to wav (lowest setting), and then compress it later (audacity does this as well). LMA only accepts losses formats (i.e., no mp3). you can upload mp3s to the open source audio section of archive.org - and they will take it as one large file. that's the easiest way to share w/ the band member and friends.
- advice: if you're using the h4n (not applicable to the h2) - we set the recording gain at 9, use the first level of compression, and the first level of the high-pass filter (i think 80hz). otherwise we were getting distortion/clipping/booming.
- make sure to use a tripod or stand. fresh batteries if you can't plug it into a power source.
