It is interesting though these days. A friend of mine just got a license to grow in CO, he also recently opened a dispensary, one of many popping up in CO. He called me up and asked me if I wanted to invest and I turned him down. I don't know why, but I like things the way they are in a way. I've got my source, he too is a good friend. I'm not even sure I want it legal as much as I love it.
A few years back in NYC I went to the High Times magazine Christmas party at their office. A few guys from NORML were there as well. Great guys, lots of IQ in the room as well. We discussed a lot of pros and cons of legalization and at that time I was pretty convinced it was the right thing to hope for. Now I'm not so sure.
I am a liquor importer and pull my hair out on a daily basis dealing with excise taxes, regulations, licenses, permits, state liquor authorities, etc. It is a mess of shit all the time. And when the govt. regulates something, the tax gets passed on to the consumer in every business model across all industries.
Knowing the inner workings of the highly regulated liquor industry, I don't want to see marijuana put into a similar system. While they are completely different products, the govt. will be all about the bottom line which will be their tax profits which I think would be astronomical, and my bottom line is that the government to a large degree are just a bunch of shmucks just looking to live the perk filled lifestyle that comes with the job.
People who are sick and can benefit from smoking some weed should and I hope will soon all be able to apply for a card and get their pot at a local dispensary in every state. That is clear. But I say to the recreational user, do some legwork for christ's sake and find a reputable dealer like the rest of us had to do.
