What songs did Jerry use delay on (in the early to mid 80's)? I honestly don't know (except for space). I think I hear it in some later 80's JGB stuff.

His most obvious use was a slap delay in the JGB, maybe 2-3 repeats ... with the Dead in spots as well.

Sometimes, though if you listen close, you can hear a more tap-tempo-ish delay. That's my preferred delay use, subtle, but there. Listen to the Althea on this:

Right around the 1:24 - 1:31 mark, you can hear his delay on the first lead break, especially his bends.

To me it's inappropos to tell someone who's playing at best small venues with a Bassman that "you don't need overdrive or compression because Jerry sounded fine guitar into amp." I said it before but I think my point continues to be overlooked so I'll repeat it. Fender amps are not designed to sound their best at 1-3 on the volume knob. They really come to life at 4 or higher. If your amp is a DR, at 4, you're at small club volume. With a Bassman you're not. However, Bassman amps, in my experience, take pedals well even at lower volumes. This point underlies my prior response and I'm stickin' with it!

Great response guys, thanx and obviously this warrants continued research. It's alot to digest but that could be aforementioned cheeseburger.
