Hey now. I was just reading through this older thread and thought I would bring it back to life. My wife and are going to San Fran, for our anniversay, at the end of July. We have been talking about what we want to do when were are there. She has never been there before and I was only there once as a kid. I like the suggestions already in this thread and will be sure to check some of them out. But if anyone else has some more input or suggestions or even information about any current event happenings the last week of July I would appreciate it

Not a San Fran native but spent the summer of '87 in the Haight on Page St. and been there 10+ times over the years. If you're looking for some "couple" time - watching the sunset at Coit Tower is pretty cool. I love that city, my favorite US city to visit. I lived in Sunnyvale (just outside of San Jose) when my dad was in Vietnam in 68-69 and my grandmother was there till the early 80s.

A drive down to Monterey is worthwhile also - the 17 mile drive is pretty cool afternoon thing to do

My wife is a literature geek - there's some John Steinbeck stuff in Monterey - Cannery Row etc. Also there's John's Grill on Ellis St was in the Maltese Falcon and had pretty good food from what I remember. We also drove up the coast to Bodega Bay the town in Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" very cool road up the coast.

Thanks for the post. The pictures really help to give me a better idea of some other things to check out. Since this will be our first wedding anniversary, I think sunset at Coit Tower will be a thing to see at least one night. Thanks again for the other suggestions

I used to live in the bay area (80s-90s). If I was going with the wife I would hit the following: Stinson beach for a day trip. Might tie it into a trip up the coast.... The town mention earlier from The Birds movie is Bolinas- a great little hippie town which can be hard to find (locals tear down the signs to discourage tourists). All the way up to Point Reyes and head all the way out to North Beach.This is the end of the continent and quite a spot and when I've been there no one else was around. A very romantic spot.
Back towards the city.... Coit Tower is a good look. Thousands of little great restaurants all over. Neighborhoods of North beach/Little Italy/Chinatown are all walkable and fun. Get to G.G. Park on a Sunday when they close the roads to traffic and everyone is out skating and dancing. Its a trip. You aint in Kansas anymore. Enjoy the fog, definitely get over to Berkeley-many great spots there as well and the sunset off of the east bay hills is not to be missed. Have a good time!
