He said we would have to take the nut off to look directly at the truss rod, and thought it immature to do that at this time, so no adjustment was made. I think I would rather take the guitar to a professional to do that anyway.
In genreral... can you take the truss rod out without taking the fingerboard off?
I don't know. Questions like that are clearly beyond my understanding and abilities on the technical details of guitars. It is a set neck though, if that makes a difference.

8's suck ... Im thinking you wont like them maybe .... get a pro set up with the strings YOU want to use
Good luck to you and hope you are up and jamming soon
peace
I was playing the guitar last night, somewhat better, but it, and me, still need a lot of work. I have tried .009s before, and I couldn't tell the difference. When I re-strung the guitar on Saturday, I used a normal set of my .010s, so trying the .008s is somewhere in the relatively near future.

going from 10's to 8's might whack the guitar out a bit ... if you have the $ take it to a pro shop ...
I think in general they are good guitars - sucks to think about it I know - but some new tuners and a set up would get you back to the guitar being a source of fun and not one of frustration ....

You know, there's nothing wrong with gradually upgrading parts on your guitar over the course of time. I have a Fender strat that I just recently put some Sperzal tuners on and I think they are great. WAY better than what came standard from Fender.

If there is a good guitar technician in your area, having the axe set up for you by a pro is a nice thing to have done. Won't be very expensive. If there are any issues, he may be able to adjust them away, or at least identify them for you. I wouldn't have GC do this.

I was thinking of getting the Schecter C-1 plus, does anyone have one that could gimme some pros and cons on this guitar? I really liked the tone from the video that Billbill had, I think he's using a plus. If I bought it would i have to buy any other things for it?

You should PM Bill and ask for his most sage advice.
You might want to consider Carvin guitars as they have a custom shop that will build you a decent guitar. Many combos.

Wow, this was 4 1/2 months ago!!!!

Anyway, the latest update. I FINALLY got Schecter tech support on the phone last night. The guy heard my story and sounded like he was pretty sure the neck was not right. He gave me a return authorization, and I have to pay for shipping to send the guitar back to them. They swear they will fix ALL the problems and ship it back to me, shipping back to me will be paid by them. If they make good on that, all will be well. I am a very patient man.

It's probably going to be in the neighborhood of $50 to ship it to them, and I am not thrilled about that. However, even though I bought this guitar 2 years ago, when I had only been playing for a couple of years, I should have had the experience level to determine the neck was jacked up. Oh well, I guess I learned a $50 lesson.

Also, upon re-reading some of the comments, it appears that some folks thought I bought this guitar used. That is not correct. I bought it new from GC, so it shouldn't have been "worn out" when I got it.

Fingers crossed...well, not when I am playing my Aria or Martin, but otherwise...

I know its been said...but my bet would be it's the truss rod. That explains the poor tuning as well. I can't really explain it but mine went out of whack a long time ago...my action began to feel a bit funny and it was constantly going out of tune...With the truss rod out...your messing with the intonation and you tend to tweak the tuning...you get it sounding right...but on a different tune in a different key...everything is out of whack again. I would strongly suggest gettting someone to check the truss rod adjustment. Good luck.

Schecter has a "lifetime warrantee" on their guitars, so they are going to have to fix it. I gave them a laundry list of items I am unhappy about on the phone, and will be including a detailed list in writing with the guitar. They are supposed to fix all of it. The list as it stands at the moment:

1. Unresolvable fret buzz (possible neck problem)
2. Bad tone pot
3. tuners that constantly need to be tightened to hold a tune
4. Intonation problem high on the neck, most especially on strings 1 and 2

It would not surprise me if there is a neck problem causing, or contributing to, numbers 1, 3, and 4, but I lack the technical skills to diagnose and correct such a problem. If I could have, Schecter had already offered over e-mail to send me a new tone pot, which I would happily change out myself.

So, another update....

I got my guitar back last night, and looked it over pretty good. The first thing I noticed was a broken off nut in the guitar case, so I am assuming they changed the nut. I checked the tone pot, it was exactly the same as before. I played the guitar, and although the intonation problem seems to be gone, the fret buzz is as bad or worse than it was before. So basically, the two things that were important to me (fret buzz and bad tone pot), either got worse or weren't touched. I would say that I am pretty pissed off at the moment. I know this isn't the most expensive guitar out there, but IMO, this thing is unplayable in its present condition. Not knowing where to turn, I called the GM of the store where I bought it. He has played the guitar before and is aware of the problems, and even agreed with me that the tone pot is no good. He also agreed with me that when he played the guitar, he was getting a lot of fret buzz too, but tried to convince me that this was "normal". Talking with him last night, he was, again, trying to convince me that I was being too picky on the fret buzz and that the fret buzz I get from my guitar is normal. I told him that I have two other guitars, one of which I bought from his store, and neither of them buzz AT ALL when I am fretting the string properly. The only time I get ANY fret buzz is when my technique is poor. He seemed to want to press the issue, and I was getting annoyed, so I said "OK, I'll come down to the store right now and you can start taking guitars off the wall and if I play them and they all have fret buzz when fretted and picked properly, I'll agree that fret buzz is normal for guitars bought from your store." I think he got the point.

So, I don't really know where this leaves me. IMO, this guitar is a cheap low-quality piece of crap that is essentially unplayable in its present condition, and the techs at Schecter lack either the interest, the ability, or both to fix the guitar to play properly, and Schecter in particular doesn't seem to give a rat's ass that this is the kind of product they are putting out in the market, nor that this owner is pretty ticked off about it.

So, to make a long story short, I think I am in the market for a new axe.

Sorry to hear this story Mick. This is unaccaptable! I have had trouble with service here (WI) as well. I have what I think are somewhat simple problems or mods and the guys around here look at me like Im crazy! Is it that hard to add OBEL? I have taken a negative and turned it into a positive by where I am trying to obsorb as much info from here and from folks I talk to so that one day I will understand enough about my gear and guitars that I will not need a technician. Again bummer dude about your axe, Keirweir has a sweet Schecter for sale if you want the Jerry guitar. You probably dont want another Schecter though! Good luck and hang in there! :peas:
