yo- not sure of the show but i would say 1978 by the sound of jerry's guitar- hard to place sounds sped up
sorry i can't help more

It cannot be anytime prior to mid-1979, because the keyboardist is Brent... do you hear those synthesized bird calls, etc?

However upon repeat listens, it starts to sound more like around 1981, given Brent's and Bob's analog "noises" ...it's definitely prior to 1986-87 when the synth drums and other digital noises became very prevalent.

A great AUD and a great MATRIX are nearly identical in natural.

oops.

When i posted earlier, i said "early, like 68"

i mean to say Early, like 86

not saying that 1986 is early for the grateful dead, but im saying it sounds like an early 86 show.

just had to clarify. and i really like this little jam, and i keep getting ideas for what it is, but i still got nothin,

Has anyone worked it out yet?

Between abou 10 and 15 secs it there is that little riff that sounds like a riff played on "Stepping Out" transition from Dark Star to Sugar Magnolia, I don't recall any Dark Star>Drums jams though.....maybe try figuring out the key

It's Brent.

Yeah, I know its Brent, what I meant was, the riff was similar to the "Stepping Out" jam but was not from "Stepping Out".

And when I talked about the key I meant the key the jam is played in, not who is on the keys......

Or you probably weren't talking about either of those things so never mind

cool, sorry that wasn't clear to me. definitely some time between 83 and oh... 87, eh?

And I'm stepping way back from my earlier assertion that it's for sure coming out of a Playin' jam. That is still very possible, but the beginning of the jam, JG seems to be in E (mixo), so it could be mutating out of ....lots of stuff- Eyes, He's Gone, Truckin', Smokestack, Estimated, GDTRFB, too many possibilities... OR Playin' :D

Probably both and more besides.

The only way we'll positively ID it is someone sits and compares it to every into-the-drums transition in the mid-80's.

not very realistic, huh......

Actually what I was kinda hopin' was that someone had a tape of the show in their collection and, upon hearing the clip, said "Eureeka! I recognize that!"

That will happen one day. I've got hundreds of shows (GD & GD members' sidebands) but less than 10% of my collection is from 1980 - today.

Sounds like anywhere between maybe 83 and 92. Someone mentioned the wheel, it does sound like ther're coming out of the wheel (till about 20 seconds into it) going into space/drums.
