I play a Gibson J160E. Beautiful Guitar. See early pictures of John Lennon recording with the Fab Four. George used one too. Also I play a Martin DX1.For a bottom of the line Martin(500.00 bucks) it plays and sounds like a much more expensive model

This is what I have had, well , since 1989. Its an Ovation 1989 Collectors Series, Super Shallow. Its not as boomy as a dread but played electric, the tone really shines. The preamp and EQ are outstanding. I always had wanted one after the seeing Bobby's in the acoustic set on the "Dead Ahead' video. I hated the tuning head (kindy heavy metal looking) but I the price was right so I got used to it.

I have Yiari DY46 that I have had for many years, and every time I think of getting a new one, I think "why would I do this"? However, I would love to own a Taylor 814CE.

HA! My Jackson is the same way. Looks like a metal guitar cuz of the headstock but totally a jamband guitar from that point down!

Thank God no! but it's that same shape. Makes people cringe when they first see it!

I was going to say... eeeek! if it did have the reverse. My pointy Ovation is bad enough. Given that they never produced another model (that I know of) with that head, the reception to it could not have been too warm. Most likely, this would explain why the "great deal" that I got. Its a great player though- and that's really what mattered to me.
In fact, if I ever was able to find an Ibanez 1770PL, I would buy that in a heart beat. A friend had one in the late 80's. It had the nicest neck I have ever played. Thin, unfinished and oiled, fast... It looked like something George Lynch would have played. But I suppose Weir would play what ever suited him- he did play a Casio. : )

I've got my DX1 sitting right next to me. I like it for the money. It gets out, and it is nicely balanced between the highs-lows-and mids. I had to buy American. I see DX1's are being made in Mexico now too. Mine is an American. I understand alot of the craftsmen(and women) in Nazareth are not too happy about that move.
My next upgrade acoustically will be either Martin or Gibson. I'll have to try some out. It aint in the cards now though-that's for sure.

It depends which alvarez you are talking about, the higher end ones are awesome but not cheap. I usually keep a couple of the lower end ones in stock, as they look great, play real nice and sound good too (and of course sell well). But they really compare to their higher end guitars.
For example you can look at this. Real nice guitar but not great, you get what you pay for.

The new lefty Alvarez Yairi WY1-K (koa) on ebay is the twin to my guitar, it's a great little guitar -- $1800 on the buy it now. Doesn't ring out like a piano the way my Martin D-41 does, but it plays beautifully and it is a very good live guitar.
Plus, it is a beautiful instrument.

I Have an Alvarez AD90SCK. Got it for $400 usd out the door with a soft case, silky red strap, capo, and package of strings. It was a scratch and dent sale. There is a small imperfection on the back. Otherwise purrtty nice. I never use the electronics on it so I dont know if they are good but they are the same on the higher end ones.
I picked it up played for about 5 min and bought it on the spot. I always wanted a Yari or a nice Martin. Maybe someday but probably not. I am always worried i will wreck a nice expensive guitar, like my electric.
. . . I worry all the time when it is in the guitar stand and anyone gets near it. But i just have to ease up on the caffeine with beer chasseres
Seriously you just cannot beat a well made guitar. I wish i had a Yari or Martin when I started learning how to play.
linky to small pic alvarez AD90SCK

Larrivee - had my D-03RE for a few years now and still blows me away. Simple, sounds and plays fantastic.
