I've tried xbox and failed at the complexity.
Then playstation 2 and played too poorly for fun.
Now have a wii and it's simple-stupid good times.
I did when I was a kid but don't anymore. My son plays xbox games like Halo and such. I don't really enjoy it. I play guitar in my free time and like that way more.

That's what I love about a more-cerebral, less-digital(as in fingers) game like LSN. It's 2-player in "measured portions". Turns are 10-seconds of game action but moves are highly complex and might take 20 min or even an hour to finish giving orders... and are planned and fussed over on your own flex time... sort of the old "chess by mail" approach; played on game-clocks of 15 or 30days per player and exchanged over a server interface. So players that want to stay really busy will have several games going on simultaneous, or maybe just a couple if your "RL"* needs attending to... While you are scoping out your next move you can eat, or practice your guitar, or watch the game... break away to take care of domestic emergencies etc. And you don't get "the claw"

; specially if you are into wacom tablets or other ergo-friendly mouse subs.
Plus the LSN players are mostly English and Scottish (w/a few random Europeans and a minority of Americans), and the banter/taunting is hilarious.

With what little free time I have, I need to continue my guitar practice regimand. I used to be a prolific reader, now I can't even get a book in.

yeah I play way too much, at least in the snow months. Im into anything EA Sports and first person shooters...Halo's,F.E.A.R.,Gears of War etc etc. Rock Band's are fun but for every cool song, you have to play through 3 shitty tunes.

Half-Life 2 on the PC. I still like PC games. I can still play guitar in between the cut-scenes.

I was a gamer for a long ass time... Pretty much my single years while not gigging. I wish I got to gigging 15 years ago and not 2 years ago... DOH!
I do have PS3 and most recently (last christmas) got Playstation move (basically Wii to get my wife into it) and its pretty cool. I'd still rather rip up a first person shooter game online but since I had a kid (and another on the way 8/17) I just don't have the time and my interest level is really low now. All I want to do now is play guitar and clean up after my toddler over and over and over and over and over

I hear you Kier - it seems to be a common theme that the extraneous time wasting fun things go away when the kids arrive. I have a PS2 that I used to play a lot of sports games - mostly football and my favorite sport, baseball. I played a few computer-based first person shooter games between semesters in grad school but found that I had to delete them once school got intense as those damn icons would be beckoning me from my desktop and I have little or no willpower when it comes to getting distracted from reading research studies and whatnot. We got Guitar Hero a couple of years ago and my wife totally kicked my ass

We recently got a Wii and played that some but my kids mostly play Sesame Street games on it. I remember when the army base in Germany I grew up on in the 70s got a Pong game and we spent countless hours in the officer's club bar (why they let us into a bar is beyond me) getting into fights over two rectangular, white rectangles bouncing a little white square around a screen.

Just got a Wii for the holidays, mostly so my kids can watch Netfilx movies/tv on it and leave my desktop alone! And no money for games, but it did come with 2 discs and the kids and I like to play ping pong and basketball and frisbee golf. In Oregon, since it rains so much, it's nice to have a fun indoor game that at least makes us stand up and move around...at least that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it!!

+1 on the Joust and Mr. Do, Hogan! We used to play Mr. Do for shamefully long periods of time at the Lawson's mini-mart just up the street from my house back in the 80's. Joust was a favorite in the arcade and on the ColecoVision.
Nowadays, the most recent addiction is Halo Reach - not online, but usually a 3-some at home. What a hoot this game is. Although I tend to like games like Tigerstrat describes, I don't have the time to invest in them these days. Halo is a good fix because you can play it for 20 minutes or 2 hours, and don't have any commitment beyond that, which is all I'm capable of these days. But some past favorites are:
Quake
Starcraft
Diablo
GTA- Vice City, San Andreas and IV (all awesome and hilarious)
Bosconian (old school)
Violence Fight
Tetris (great time waster back in the day)
Cheers!

The only game I own is Age of Mythology for PC. It's a really sweet strategy game where you get to play as different ancient civilizations (Greek, Norse, Egyptian. You start out with a town center, some villagers, and a whole bunch of resources. Then you have to build up a civilization, pray to the gods, and build an army, and conquer the other civilizations on the map. It also has really awesome music. Lots of tremelo guitar goodness.
Then when I'm not at home, I usually play old school games on my friend's sega genesis, GTA, and Red Dead Redemption, which is soooo awesome. You're basically this cowboy badass, and the soundtrack is really guitar heavy spaghetti western music
