First off 1960strat Your right partially. The bass definitely sounds like it. Other than that not really though. And now that Ive heard the song I can definitely say ours will be on the other end of the musical spectrum by the time we're done with it.

I went through the usual C Am Em 2x then the bridge strumming the chords then C Am Em 2x then the bridge arpeggiated. The second bridge is sloppy and has pauses. I want it continuous but for now you get the idea. Which do you think sounds better? Me and a friend both like the second one better but my bassist is way against it.

Sounds good blob. Either sounds good but if you only have one guitar the strumming might be better. If you have 2 do both. Or compromise and pick the Dm-E and strum the rest. That might be the best. Arpeggiate the minor portion, that'll add a bit more distinction to it, then resolve to the major chords, F-C etc. with that bright reggae strum again.

It will be 2 guitars there. Havent thought about what to do with the second guitar but yeah I like your idea of doin the Dm-Em (Changed the E to Em) with arpeggios then goin into the major part with strumming. Now on to the melody and vocals. Heres where the fun ends and the tough stuff begins lol.

As for the melody my only advice would be not to force it - Certainly mess around with it - fool around and in and out of chordal tones - but don't force it. Sometimes less is more - if you have lyrics already you'll be somewhat constrained by that.

imho the melody is the most important part of the tune. Some inspiration may come to you at the weirdest times - it's not a bad idea to have a little mini cassette or digital recorder at arms length at virtually all times - lol. Then you can hum or wistle or whatever, your ideas into it when they hit you.

If you want further help on this let me know, but if you want to write now is as good a time as any, and to borrow a familiar sentiment "that path is for, your steps alone".

Yeah right now we are in the process of workin out the drums for the bridge. Then im gonna work on the melody. As far as that goes im just gonna noodle for a while. Eventually I should fall into somethin decent. Or at least somethin that can be tweaked to my liking from there. Thanks for all the help thus far. Im sure ill be consultin you again haha
