for the new millenium of festivals goers, going to Bonaroo is like pinning a medal to these kids. Never seen a really good line-up. maybe the Dead, Allmans, Ween. but ive seen those bands in my own home town. without support from a bunch of lame acts riding on the coatails of the post-Jerry party scene.

Most Heads i know that have seen Jerry could give a rats ass about Bonaroo and the whole "experience".
the new kids seem to beleive its some sort of right of passage. seriously ive been discredited by folks for saying it wasnt worth the drive or the money. of course they never saw Jerry himself so...

its funny, just for kicks when i meet other heads at shows, coffee shops, street etc.... i always ask if they are interested in aquiring some sbds from my collection. 90% of the time i get an answer along the lines of "whats a soundboard"?

just my speculation, but thats exactly what i would expect to find if i were to go to Bonaroo.

For a group of open minded people ur guys' statements are a little surprising. I've never gone to roo so I will aknowledge that I have no frame of reference in terms of that experience. I've been to my share of festivals however. I'm actually excited about the lineup. Metallica may be heavy and Pearl Jam may not be jam, but the mix of bands on the bill is more intriguing to me than ever. That to me is the core of this little community. Not the fact that it's not jam heavy but the idea that there's so many new and wide ranging experiences out there. I'm gonna go this year for the first time. I'm really looking forward to it. Anybody else feel the same way or am I a misled soul?

I dont know hobbsy, I agree, but disagree at the same time. this was going to be my first year at bonaroo, but the lineup doesnt even really make me want to run and by a ticket. I mean, the concert is almost like a 90s rock/heavy festival mixed with a southern jam festival. what happened to a little spread and sts9, or even medeski! I dunno, i guess to each his own

but the thing is, after having the same kinda lineup and bands and what not for years, then changing up and bringing in these new headliners, shouldnt they have expected some negative feedback?

I would have gone last year(or maybe the year before, not sure) just to see Radiohead. They definitely aren't part of the scene, but man do I love me my Radiohead! A buddy of mine went mainly for Radiohead and he ended up seeing Phil&Phriends. He said Phil was the best act of the fest and he isn't even a fan of the boys.

yeah radiohead played year before last...went this past summer and it seriously sucked so badly...we left early. The lineup just hasn't been what I'm looking for in a festival and the people oh my goodness...the people there. They were AWFUL. I mean, there were definitely the chill, laidback crew that knew what was up but there were throngs of kids just looking to get all twisted on dirty dirty drugs. Not the place to buy doses for sure. Anyway, it just seemed like a lot of chodes that weren't even there for the music (though i understand due to the kind of bad lineup). I don't know. Bonnaroo is totally dead to me as well. Anyway, I mean, if metallica is your thing, go and check it out. Metallica though?? Metallica? laughable.

You will enjoy it if you want to enjoy it. The experience will be what you make it so I'm sure you'll have a good time. I am a fan of Pearl Jam and can listen to Metallica for about 10 minutes at a time before I succumb to anguish.

Your comments about this "little community" are a bit misled. Bonnaroo is not a "little community" by any means. There will be hundreds of thousands of people there and not everyone will be chill. Pearl Jam and Metallica are by no means cutting edge or new either...

I think people on this board are past being disillusioned about the whole blissfest festival feeling. Sure you can make that for yourself in your group of friends but I don't know if Bonnaroo is the best place to do that.... fuckin' sold out to MTV... that is what kills it for me, dude. Its not about getting a bunch of like-minded people together anymore. I don't know if it ever was but Woodstock sure seemed that way (I am 20 years old and have no idea).

I went to Mountain Jam summer of 2006 and it was a damn fun time. Lots of crazed and wasted people, people selling all kinds of drugs. Not exactly a hippie love fest or anything...
