OK... I said to my self I wasn't goling to throw my two cents in political comments, but this one couldn't rest.

I am concerned about our fellow man, country, children (Most importantly my children), you name it, I am concerned for the welfare of mankind.

I am a realist. I know my vote counts, however I also know my vote really doesn't mean squat in the grand scheme of things.

My resposibility is very provential. I have three boys, I volunteer my time for youth activities, sponser and advise kids trying to start bands, coach baseball and basketball. My halo is indeed dinged and crooked, don't get the wrong idea, this is not a "Holier than thou" kid of thing.

If I can influence a kids heart to do the right thing, think of others, treat others how you would want to be treated.. (We all know the grandma rules) then I have done more than any political candidate will ever do.

Actions have much more of an influence than words coming from any politico on television.

I harbor no ill-will to any (Well most) politicians, I know some "Skin-slappers" and most are good people. However their main goal is to be re-elected in order to try and influence other type "A" politicians to their point of view. I have seen this too much.

As we are apt to say here in the south, "Keep it down home cuz", I do have a positive influence in my kids... BY MY ACTIONS. If we see someone with a flat on the side of the road, we stop to help. If a homeless person asks for some change, I ask to buy him a meal, If a family has been booted from their house because they did not know the reprucutions of an adjustable mortgage, I'll gather my troop of like minded friends and find them a place. It is not that hard to have more influence than ANY politicians. Look in your own back yard there are plenty of folk that could use REAL help.

As far as The Dead and politics, As much as the muisic and "Vibe" has been a part of my life, I don't give a rip about who Jerry supported, or Bob, or anyone for that matter.

I WILL not look to the government to solve any problem. Fix my streets, make sure I am protected from bad people, assist me in helping those that physically or mentally are unable to help themselves. The rest of the problems in this great country are mostly all self inflicted. There are exceptions, of course, but I still find it very difficult to swallow that we will spend (from my tax dollars) millions of dollars to study a yellow-bellied swamp frog's sex habits, while kids are forced to endure sub-par educators.

I apologize for any offence this may cause.
That's all I got to say about that.

He turned his back in the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s with politics and would now. He avoided issues and conflict almost like a little kid.

Who are you to say this? You joined a musicians board just yesterday to fight politics and add nothing else. IMO if anyone is in the wrong spot you it may be you.

Bobby has said alot of stupid things over the years but this one tops them all. Like many here most people think DeadHead = Democrat. And that is wrong. Most DHs are Liberal but not the whopping majority people like to convince themselves of...



To the world is different crowd - no it's not really but BIG MEDIA likes to drum it into our brains. The Left needs you to think that so you vote their way out of political fear and the Right needs you to think that so you vote their way out of terrorist fear.

Jerry would not want people wondering what he would do if he was still alive... jerry was a MUSICIAN!!! I don't give a fuck who he would vote for, i don't give a fuck about his political views!!! The only time you should ask what jerry would do is when your learning one of his songs.

Let me ask u this.. Would you ask a junkie, who was never around for his kids, continually cheated on his spouse's, and ran from any responsibility what his voting preferences are?? Well i love Jerry's playing as much as the next Head. But as far as Jerry as a man, he was completely flawed. I think out of all those traits listed-- shunning responsibility( which includes being there for his kids) is the truest reflection of Jerry's outlook. I didnt, and still dont give a shit about any of their political beliefs. On this one i am an active member of Obama's campaign in upstate New York,so live and let live. This is a board to discuss the things about the Dead that mattered. Their history, music, and for some folks to help others with these things. If you want to blog about politics, go to NPR, CNN, Fox( which sounds about right for you Nova) or any other one.

well i guess i opened a big can of worms here and for the record i viewed these discussions on this message board for years and just finally decided to get on here because of all the same boring topics drugs, songs i thought it could use a little fire didnt mean to offend anyone hope everyone doesnt think im just here because of the politics i saw a comment and posted my oppinion thats it keep on truckin

CaptainTrips, I also dislike most politicians. I hope that I could not be bribed to support any of the candidates and that I could make my decision based on their merits. The problem is we don't know how any of the candidates will prove themselves and if history has showed us anything, its that people with power are willing to use that power in radical ways. The most important leaders of the USA have made decisions of enormous proportions and reverberations in society. Think Lincoln and the Civil War, FDR and the New Deal, all the people responsible for getting us into Korea, Vietnam, not to mention many South American countries, Cuba, Philipines, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the list goes on.

The political atmosphere has not changed that much. As soon as the US realized how convenient the military-industrial complex was for maintaining a booming economy in the late 19th/early 20th century, we have been flooding the market with guns and been involved non-stop in conflict.

I have little trust in politicians and feel any average individual can do a lot more at home, like Phil on the Bozo Bus said, than in the political sphere. No politician is going to save you if there is a terrorist breach and all goes to hell. Under a police state, everone will be responsible only for their own ass, their family, and anyone they consider their friends. Sorry for that apocalyptic rant.

Novafriend, I appreciated your post of unity and positivity within the deadhead circle but there are lots of different people out here from many different backgrounds that there are bound to be many different opinions, as with any group of friends. It is good to question anything that anyone tells you and know that nobody knows the whole truth at any given point. Not a politician nor a musician, however charismatic they may be.

Jerry says in the Rolling Stone interview with Charles Reich, "you put a lie out there, you know, and it accumulates energy, what you've got is, you know, we're living in a state of lies , you know, accumulating vast energy... And the end result is the incredible chaos that faces civilization... But I'm not worrying about your lies, I'm worrying about my lies, for Christ sakes." (pg.127)

Jerry would burn one down in these times of hardship.
