I never saw Jerry drop a pick but I did see Bobby lose one and then catch it mid-air and go right back to it. 77 winterland?

Weir would drop his pick almost as often as he'd mess up lyrics.

Hey hallelujah, I think I remember that show in 77, I don't know which show it was but Weir must have dropped his pick at least 3 times. A friend of mine who was always at the rail would often get spit on by Bobby too...sweaty, slobbery Bob....

I'm pretty sure I've seen him go back and forth to get one from atop his road case while lighting a smoke.

I've seen Billy get hit w/a beer bottle. I've seen gear kicking by Bobby on a few occasions, thats about it. In hindsight, I unfortunately spent more time in the halls than actually watching the shows.

on a totally different subject.. I don't know if I picked this up second hand and just think i saw it or I really remember what I saw... Does anyone recall Brent vomiting on his keys at Deer creek or Tinley Park during his last tour summer '90? I can even recall someone running out to wipe down keys. I believe it was right at the encore.

Because of Jerry's missing middle finger, he could pick and then slip the pick right into the slot and pull it out again at will. It really helped him going from pick to finger picking and back again. He still, of course, dropped them on many an occasion. He could also play lead and push his glasses up on his nose at the same time, a feat I saw him pull off almost constantly.

Its like the man had the best gear and the cheapest glasses...
I saw a close up of Jer once and you could see his lens's were filthy....
Pushing up the sunglasses-how many times a night did he do that?

Awesome avatar!!! YAY FOR YOU!!

One a similar topic: Can anyone share some storys about the boys throwing "tantrums" during a show...? Like Bob kicking his gear (I cringe thinking about it).

KICKING GEAR (OR BANDMATES)

Jerry threw Phil down the the stairs once but thats old news.Told Phil something like "Play you bastard"...
I really have a hard time seeing Jerry get mad though.
I would love to see that Jerry throw down the mic in disgust thing.

Jerry indeed had a very mean streak.

The boys got pissy at each other often.

You can see it on their faces and avoidance

The GearBook talks about turning others way down in the IEM.

I'm not really surprised I mean they are Human.
Buy ya know you only see the smiling happy side in the photos and stickers and stuff.
Phil seems like the most opinionated one to me just from various interviews and things I've read.Sometimes when bandmates dont know when to back off it can really bring the whole thing down.
They all seemed to be under a lot of pressure to keep the Dead rolling 'cause of all the employees and stuff.
Other "tantrums" might be Bob talking about tech. problems during the shows.I love his commentary.
Jamaica 82 is loaded with tech probs and Phil says (kinda Nasty) "So were gonna fix it!"
Later on Bob tells some chick to met her Aunt by the Coconut Tree..... :-) :-) :-) Bob is the Man!

Jedi Ive seen tons of Jerry pics where he certainly is NOT smiling. He looks pissed off half the time lol. I can see Jerry being the nicest guy in the world at times but he also seems like he could be big-headed which in turn would cause many problems in the band. Bobbybbobbboobob search the forums for Dead Oddities and theres some stories and good banter in there.

It really has to be stuck on a smooth flat surface. Most mic stands won't have an area like that to stick it to.

But anywhere it will stick that is convienent is perfect.

Once I saw Jerry smoking a fatty on stage....the reason i thought it was a J was becuase when you smoke a smoke you don't take multiple quick hits on it then place it back in the ash tray, you would simply take one haul.

I beleive the show was Buckey Lakes in 91.
