that said in the past there are always two canadates that people automatically pick to represent the two major political parties. because of youtube and other internet venues the less funded canidates are getting more attention, which i love. i'm a big ron paul fan at this point, and i never would've heard about him from regular media. we all know hillary's gonna get the dem nom but it'd be great if a guy like gravel could get that spot...but i dont trust americas collective brainpower enough for that to happen. the fact that i even know who gravel is is good enough for me. hopefully the system of the media building up two canidates for months on end till everyones brainwashed enough to just vote for which they like better, an elephant or a horse will disapear.

i voted for your daughter's. it was the best because it touched on topics that teenagers would be best to immediately relate too.

i have a question. you see anti-pot ads all the time on t.v., but never on anti-drinking, what's the deal there? not to mention the anti-pot ads are absolutely moronic in their logic and argument.

As I understand the argument it is really more that an adult can better gage alcohol and is mature enough to consume. Therefore the commercials I see (and they do outnumber pot ones for the stations I view) are around don't drink and drive or drink responsibly.

The only "good" anti-pot commercial I've ever seen basically said something like don't worry about being a hypocrite and warn your kids of the risks of mj.

Must be a regional thing. I see way more don't drink and drive PSA's then ones about pot. In fact I've only seen a pot PSA a couple of times. The main ones are anti-smoking (cigs) which are funded primarily by the smoking industries as part of their agreement on law suits. But in my area it's like this

1. stop smoking
2. Don't drink and drive
3. Don't sniff glue and gasoline
4. Live above the influence. (pot)

i guess my question was more about ads trying to prevent underage drinking. i've never seen one and i know its a huge problem in wisconsin. i've seen the don't drink and drive ads though

Ooh, meth is now the big one on TV these days.

This one is on every hour:
The protagonist is a sober looking fellow buying meth and says "i'm just gonna try meth once, I don't wanna end up like that guy".

Then he looks a bit disheveled, and says he's gonna smoke it don't end up like that guy.

Then messed up and says he's gonna shoot and and not end up like that guy.

Then he's completed torn apart wasted and some fresh kid is about to do meth and says he's just gonna do it once and not end up like that guy. Now our protagonist has turned into the antagonist.

Actually very powerful and moving.

frankly i don't think it really matters how many negative reprocussions you flash in front of someone people are gonna do what they're gonna do.Especially if they are bored. This is why, in my opinion, a far better solution is to provide kids with enough interesting and stimulating activities such that they would less likely be inclined to spend a lot of time chugging southern comfort in the parking lot or similar activites, that I know myself, and I'm sure more than a few of you reading this, spent time doing as kids.

I dig what you are saying, bro. But what more is there to offer kids: high school sports, high school social clubs, city sports, city social clubs, game systems, malls, etc. What more is there?

What exactly are you referring to? Broad statements like that only lead to confusion and assumptions. If you are referring to the anti-drugs and teen/heavy drinking folks you are off your rocker. Those types have been around for ever in the Dead community. Anyone else remember Wharf Rats?

Anti all gov't
Hippies
Beatnick leftovers
Bikers
Etc...

Over the years I've seen every type of person: liberal, conservative, politically apathetic, black, white, brown, Asian, republican, democrat, straight laced, addicts, alcoholics, people who only smoke pot and think alcohol is for fools, etc.

I actually know kenneybonz's daughter, and she is a good kid with her head on straight. I liked her spot, because it does touch on what I think is quite possibly the most potentially long lasting effect of underage intoxicant addled decision making. A buzz lasts a few hours, but a baby lasts a lifetime.

Of course, I do find it ironic ( and I am a father of two teens myself ) that I am now in the position of being AGAINST underage drinking, and more specifically, having drunk teenage girls around. Because, you know, back in the day, I looked at that as more of a good thing.

For my two cents about FOX, is this - while I certainly disagree with their political stance, hey, their entitled to it. If you can't see how skewed their presentation is that's more your issue than theirs. My problem with them is that the FOX News side presents themselves as all holier than thou God's News channel guardians of your families morality, while the FOX network airs the most morally questionable and outright culturally degrading crap on TV. Although I do love the Simpsons and Family Guy, I just think it's very cynical and hypocritical of them.

My favorite time to smoke pot is during those anti-pot smoking commercials. Especially the one that i don't think is on too much anymore, but the little kid is left at baseball practice because his older brother was too high to remember to pick him up. or the ones when there is a loaded gun involved thats always fun, and then the talking dog who says to the teenage girl, "i really wish you would smoke pot, you're not the same." its always fun during those commercials, and Jeopardy, of course.
