Was a pretty cool time.

grew up minutes from where Moe. got together, Central NY area. They always do a summer show in Utica, but they used to do a lot more local bar shows, smaller clubs, back in the day, before they "hit it big." I knew they had really gotten somewhere when they played a show down at this club in Utica under the name "monkey's on ecstasy." Either way, I listen to "ok alright" and all this high school nostalgia comes back, oh central NY, you'll never leave me...

We also see the classic Dicky Betts "Elbow" technique!

i hope central ny leaves me real soon.

every band here now is either ska or hardcore. not a big fan of either genre. mostly there is NO music scene if you're anything but ska or hardcore.

we have nothing to do here, a few malls, but i hate malls.

i dont know any deadheads phish phans or anyone AT ALL connected to the jamband scene in a level beyond "i like to go to phil lesh concerts to do drugs"

it just sucks here

I would frequent a bar in the 90's were Hootie would play quite often. We would never stay unless we could talk the bar keep into free drinks. Kind of was a bummer having to give up for favorite stool for the sake of sanity...

yeah man, I know how you feel. I was lucky enough to grow up in a town quite receptive to the scene, had a bunch of friends who were into phish and the dead, went to plenty of shows in high school, when phish would be in albany and what not. However, overall, the scene sucks, i'm back in NY (not central) but living in Vermont for 6 years certainly helped me get over CNY. Stay strong, and my advice, get out while you can!

Well, I live in Princeton right now and a couple of cats have "made it" John Popper and Blues Traveler, and some geeky guy with red hair Trey something or other (LOL)

Also the Zen Tricksters are from N.Y. and I used to hang out with them every once in a while at the Wet Lands

As a native new yorker saw Springstein a time or two at the Bottom Line in lower Manhattan(small Club) pre Time Magazine cover of 75...also I was raised in Queens as were the Ramones...but as was never really into them or Bruce for that matter.for me the 70s were all Dead shows with very few exceptions.

Used to se Jorma and Rick Danko in a small club in Liberty, NY, boy that was fun

I just saw Billy Nershi at the grocery store the other day before he left for Europe for the Cannabis Cup .... Richard Marx used to play parties when I was in high school... he was quite the pretty boy, a little feminine, but was always and I mean ALWAYS the nicest guy around and had the prettiest girl !!!! Now the Yonder boys, Nershi and Mosely form Cheese and Vince and Drew from Leftover are all called neighbors !!! Gotta love these hills !!!!

When I lived in Boulder in the mid '70s Chris Hillman and the band that would later become Firefall used to play in small local bars. Of course, Hillman, Rick Roberts, and Mark Andes had all been stars with earlier bands by then.

Well, the Pixies are right outa Amherst MA, missed 'em by a decade though. Doesn't really compare to ABB or Billie Joel though, crazy.

I had dinner w/Charles (aka Frank Black/Black Francis) from the Pixies last Passover! He now lives in Eugene and is really nice.

Didn't live anywhere w/anyone getting famous (although I went to HS in Chapel Hill and James Taylor is from there, I looked him up in an old HS yearbook!) but saw many folks before they hit it big:

Tracy Chapman opening for Dylan w/no one there
Dave Mathews in a bar w/maybe 20 people
REM opening for the English Beat
U2 on their first tour of the US, when no one knew of them
Van Halen on their first tour
Elvis Costello and the Attraction playing to a not sold out crowd on their first US tour
The Dixie Dregs at a local club, etc.

I used to live near Bond,Co. in the early 90's. Had some good times with Vince and leftover at State bridge lodge.

I went to University of Richmond in the early 90s. I used to see the Dave Matthews Band at the Flood Zone all the time. They were nothing (except a pretty good bar band) at the time. And then they released that Under the Table Dreaming disc and they took off. I was never a huge DMB fan, but that's my closest claim to fame.

Standing on the patio at the Stage Stop and hanging out with Vince Herman is the second closest.
