When it doesn't fit anywhere else

I was only 14, and yes i heard it on MTV. waking up late after a long night around a bonfire next to a HUGE treehouse complete with a bar (you should have seen people trying to climb down this thing after a few drinks). I flipped a few stations and found an "MTV news exclusive" or whatever they used to say. what happened was a huge congregation behind the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I had only begun to feel the "magic" about 6 months earlier. I was blessed to live in a town with a rather ridiculous large crowd of heads who "took me under their wings" to make sure i would understand the music. And then i realized that i'd never get to actually see him in person, their was never gonna be another chance. since then ive felt a sort of obligation to turn anyone on to the Dead.

that certainly marked and end, but to only one thing, Jerrys physical self. but for so many it marks a new beginning. Jerry had been walkin' those roads for 35 years and he finally found one to lead him home, but for us.....there are so many roads to ride.

I was a metalhead when I got dragged to the LAST Dead show in 95.. went with a buddy to try and score grass.. ended up going in.. 12 years later I'm the "Jerry" in my own GD cover band.. talk about infectious

we performed an all Garcia show a couple days ago on Aug 9th as we do every year and during the end of Standing On The Moon (which I sing) I closed my eyes while repeating the verse "I'd rather be with you" and was brought back to Soldier Field where I remembered Jerry singing So Many Roads... for a moment I swore I could feel Jerry standing right next to me

although I only saw him once... I miss him more than I can say

I'm a little late on this. I was on vacation and when I got back to work I was pulling the pages off my Fender desk calendar and I saw the Aug.9th entry 'Jerry Garcia Dies'.
I was driving to work and incidently went out of my way to drive by an old bandmate's house just to look at the place we used to jam and as I passed by I heard the news on NPR radio. They were playing 'To Lay Me Down' and I just pulled off by this park and shed a few. I'd like to say I went back to the guy's house but I'm kinda personal with my grief and due for work so I just went on.
