Never a huge cheese fan. I saw them in 98 and had a good time. Thought they where solid but wasn't blown away. Can't stand trance jam bands (sts9, particle, disco, lotus,p-groove,ect.) so when I went to a 2004 show I was shocked. It wasn't as bad as some other jam bands I've heard but not something that could really move me. Just not my cup of tea.

Railroad earth and yonder mountain absolutly rock. Yonder is bob wier bluegrass and railroad earth is jerry bluegrass. Love them both the same just one is more rockin and one is more melodic and dynamic. Both are better then cheese ever was imho. I'm sorry to see them go becuase I know a lot of my friends and all you seemed to love them. Hopefully some other band comes along and fills that void for you.

I just saw them last night at the Beacon. They were HOT! It was only my second show and unfortunately I may never see them again. Poor poor pitiful me...It was a wonderful show though.

I love cheese, I have seen 20 plus shows and they have always thrown one of the greatest parties you can go to. I'm going to both shows at the Greek theater next weekend, which have incredible lineups both nights (sts9, discobiscuits and then RRE and hot buttered rum) that will lend to interesting collaborations to say the least. The weekend after that i'm going to see them at Horning's Hideout, probably the greatest music venue I've been to (also a great place to see Yonder for three nights every summer at the String Summit).
All in all, I agree with the criticism to an extent, just as I can understand a lot of people's criticisms of the Dead. Nonetheless, I love the music, the shows, and the people. I'll miss it all. I disagree with those who say there are few really great bands left to see though. Losing cheese is a hard blow, but all of the members are still actively playing, and bands we know and bands that we don't know are going to pick up the slack in the coming years. While I'm sad, i'm more excited for music on the horizon that I don't even know about yet.

SCI is one of my favs, and although I'm bummed they're coming to an end, some folks have gotten it right by stating that they had started to get watered down the last year or 2. I like the trance stuff they did personally, but some of their newer songs just got....uh....cheesy.

That, however, does not mean I want to see them close the book though. I think all bands have "down" years or whatever, and I think with the talent and creativity they all bring to the project, they could've pulled out of it, but it's probably hard when their (read: Billy's) hearts aren't into it, so I respect them for doing it before it (potentially) turned bad/ugly/boring/embarassing/etc.

Still bummed to see them go. Great musicians, and they put on a great show, and have a great staff working for them that are super nice.

I posted the same topic somewhere else, yeah i love cheese and have been roadin it up thie summer trying to see all their shows on the last tour. But lost sailor if your still reading this i was wondering how you could like old cheese and not new cheese but like honkytonk homeslice...honkytonk homeslice is a joke to me.. know that will make a few people mad but oh well

after seeing this post i decided to take a second look at the cheese. my dad had a few recordings that i liked, i was wondering if anyone has particular show dates that were spectacular?

I have a spectacular SPECTACULAR string cheese show..if you also like sound tribe sector 9...you can grab it off archive or oink or whatever.2004-06-19 its a must have for true cheese fans

2/24/98 and 11/17/2000 are by far the 2 best cheese shows that I have heard.

yeah those are some gems, but ronster if your into cheese check out the shows i posted you wont regret it.
