After playing bass many years ago and selling all my gear we fast forward several years to when my step son bought me an acoustic a few Xmases ago. This really got me back into playing. I did then pick up a cheap electric for the occasional blast when the urge took me. Acoustic though remained the preference.

Sadly my father passed away last year and looking through some old photos he had I found one of me with my bass - so with a bit of cash that came my way I went a got me a bass.

So at the moment the question of acoustic or electric or even bass is one that I often ask myself.

Think I need to decide what I want to play and concentrate on that!!

my first year of playing just ended, so i never seriously got into effects and petals with electics, but since i started on guitar, i first played my bros nylon string acoustic, then switched to my dads steel string acoustic, then his electic, and when i had money and was ready to get a guitar of my own, i defenetley had to get an acoustic, thats defenetley my favorite

electric, but i hate all the equipment that i use, we did a gig a few days ago and my overdrive pedal breathes it's last during soundcheck, i had to play the entire gig clean and twangy because i wasnt allowed to turn the amp up, i'd drown everyone else out...d'oh

I play acoustic for things like ballads, folk, stuff made for acoustic or stuff with a lot of chord changes

I play electric for blues, rock, reggae, and most of my jams. On electric ill play riff-oriented stuff

I like electric because you can play faster and more expressively, and you can get a ton of sounds

I like acoustic because it doesnt need anything other than a guitar to play and it sounds beautiful

I'd go electric if i had to choose one, but hopefully i never will have to

I have played predominantly acoustic for the dozen or so years that I've played. At the moment I have a Larivèe D-03 that I love. Probably the best acoustic I've ever had. I've had a few electrics over the years, but it never really grabbed me like the acoustic. Recently though I've been wanting a bit more diversity and options and I picked up a cheap Washburn electric from a friend and I'm lovin it. Unfortunately now I have to start investing in pedals, and a real amp. All I have is a little no name busking amp. But it works for the moment! So I guess personally I've losing my preference for either and just playing the music that comes out.
