i love Keiths "let me sing your blues away". I wish he did more vocals with the dead. The only 2 songs I can think of are Let me sing and Showboat

yeah, i have a show from 74 w/ martin fiero(i think thats right) on the horn and it goes wonderfully with keiths voice in that song. Very motown, r & b ish i think.

okay guys ... the April Fools joke reminds me of alot of the Grateful Dead cover bands around America ....theres probably 200 Dead cover bands around the country and my guess is that half of them sound that bad ... theres some REALLY good ones but I am so over most of them ... I like the ones that put their own spin on things

9-11-73 has an EXCELLENT Let Me Sing Your Blues Away with someone on horns maybe Martin again. Not sure but check it out.

This reminds me of how Jerry was a fan of Bill Monroe and took off in the early sixties to follow Bill around. Jerry wanted to become Bill's banjo player but could never build up the nerve to approach Bill.

Bill Monroe once saw a Freddie Fender impersonator playing in the parking lot of one of his shows. The guy was actually a pretty good musician, Bill ripped into the guy and told him he should find his own voice and create his own music.

Jerry seemed to follow the path that Bill recommended as did David Grisman. Breaking out of the stereotypical bluegrass or rock and roll idiom.

Likewise, I see a lot of talented musicians playing in Dead cover bands that would be better served by taking what they have learned from playing the Dead and turning it into something new and creative.

i was always under the impression and i think so was jerry that cover bands (lets not forget that jerry considered JGB a cover band) were a way to show off your talents and not neccissarily your creativity. Besides, theres harldy any serious musicians that are gonna play the stuff of only one band.

i might be thinking of the same one, and theres a nice let it grow as well
