The VLC player is great but Im kind of surprised to see nobody has mentioned the traders little helper. Good free program. It converts it to wave, bigger than a mp3 but better quality. http://www.thetradersden.org/

Will a CD or DVD player play flac files that are burned on a CD?

No, thats why its good to convert them to another format (mp3 or wav). The FLAC format is great for preservation but harder to deal with.

I use foobar2000 with a shn plugin to play flac and shn, and since this is my first post I'll just post the links in my next post.

I LOVE Foobar. Sometimes it takes up as little as less than 10k Physical Memory, while iTunes sometimes hits 50k!!!
