It's a lot of money for a small impact. Not worth it sound wise for sure, but maybe from a collector/Garcia fan perspective. FWIW, that price is not much more than what a clean pair is going for in the US now.

How much do you think you could sell them for and how long would it take? That would be a BIG part of my decision before buying something that expensive that I haven't been able to try in person first.

Also, it's going to be another 6-9 months before release, but the Wampler Pedalhead may be a great smaller cheaper and more apartment volume friendly option. It should be as loud as the MC50 if you want it but it can also be dialed back. It will model a few different power amp sections, mostly tube, but one of the engineers said they were leaning towards a vintage SS option and he was looking to arrange a 2300 to borrow and profile. I hope that happens and it lives up to expectations!

How often do we buy gear our guitar heroes' gear only to find that it doesn't work for us in the context of our own playing because our conditions differ? I loved my MC50's tone but by the time I cranked it up to a volume where it truly shone, I was louder than anywhere I would use it, so I sold it. For the volume levels that are practical for me, I prefer my Carvin DCM200L.

Yes, I think canceling this purchase was a wise decision. If it had been just one MC50, I think I would have bought it, but since I don’t need two (and I don’t even really need one), it would have been unreasonable. Also, with all the wars currently happening in the world and the possibility of a major economic crisis, it’s better for me to keep some savings.

The Wampler looks very interesting—thanks for the recommendation. I’ll look into it when it’s released!

Couldn’t agree more! I’ve had my eye on the Carvin DCM amps—is the 200L as good as the DCM2000L, just with 200W instead of 2000W? They seem to have a solid reputation and are very lightweight, which is a big advantage over many others. That said, they’re also harder to find used in Europe.

If I come across one at a good price, I’ll probably pick it up and sell my QSC PLX1202. It’s a great amp, but the fan is quite noisy and it’s not exactly lightweight. Although I’ve read some older posts here suggesting the QSC sounds slightly better and is more durable.

The Crest CA4 also looks interesting, but it’s heavy, expensive, and even harder to find around here.

My "big rig" is an Alembic F-2B preamp into a Carvin DCM200L into a pair of 1x12s loaded with JBL K120s. I don't take it out much anymore, preferring the convenience of gigging my Quilter Aviator Mach 3 loaded with an old Jensen Neo 12-100. I've had the Carvin for many years, probably at least 15. Love it. Sounds great and, IIRC, weighs in at about four pounds and takes up just one rack space.

I love the Jensen Neo 12-100. A great choice for Jerry tones: clear and balanced with a solid bottom end and good highs without being icepicky.

And we're overdue for Quilter's Mach 4!
