You are correct regarding switching hot & ground. If he/she does (or doesn't) and it's wrong, it's not a big deal to reverse them after the fact.

Here 's the actual Cowboy wiring diagram from Ibanez clearly showing middle pickup red lead connected to ground and black to the switch. IIRC, the pickup has two other wires which are connected to each other.

To complete the wiring diagram, here's the other part which includes the EQ board. Be aware that this EQ board is completely different from the late 70's Ibanez EQ board.
