Ed, Gregg - this is hands down my favorite place on the web. You guys created and have kept something special going. I can't thank you, the other admins, regular...and not so regular contributors enough. This is a true community and it is great to see members meeting up offline.

Love that shirt too  I wear mine with pride!

Thanks for all the nice comments folks, and in advance for those that may come after. Honestly, I wasn't fishing for them. :)

I wanted to jump back in here because there was something I neglected to tell ya'll.....a little historical trivia. When I had the site it was www.connix.com. Don't look for any meaning in the name, it ain't there. When Gregg and I were talking he said something along the lines of "I've had this idea to have a web-site named rukind".

And there ya are.

What year was that Ed? I remember that it was Rukind a couple years before the 2004 phpboard introduction date. I forget what kind of forum we were using before that.

We didn't have a forum before. When I had the site, there was just a front page, latest news. Gregg did similar until he put the tabs in the format you see them now. But the forums that we have now are all we've ever had.

You're right Ed, I remember now. I think I was thinking about the join date that's associated with our profile. I know that rukind was around years before 2004.

It use to look like this http://web.archive.org/web/200302152011 ... rukind.com

it's very interesting that you pop that up Dozin'....So, Gregg and I were talking and the laws have apparently changed a bit in a favorable way.

Several years back, there was an "internet tab scare"....the publishers of songs claimed that tab sites were infringing on their copyright, threatened, and I do believe in some cases followed through on their threats to sue. Gregg asked me what I thought we should do and I told him to take the site down....I didn't want to see anyone going after him financially for the tabs. He actually contacted Ice Nine publishing who gave the green light to have the Dead tabs up. Mind you, just like the issue with archive.org and the soundboard recordings a few years ago, this applied only to original Grateful Dead material. So the site lived on, all-be-it without the other tabs that you see on that historical view.

So, now, as I understand it, the onus is now on the publisher to specifically request the tab site to remove tabs that they feel infringe on their copyright.

Short story long.....those other ones may be coming back soon. :)

RUKind is an exceptional resource for Dead fans and musicians. I've discovered a world of devotees I didn't previously know existed. I thought I was a Dead expert but quickly realised through this site that compared to many I actually know jack shit about the band and their music, which is both a humbling and enlightening experience.

More power to all of you.
