I had the MPX-G2 for years before the Axe, it was great. Also tried the G Sharp not long ago, returned it, thought it was awful.
I used a TC Electronics G-Major II for a while before my I got an AxeFX and it was a good unit. I kept behind the pre-amp and mostly used it for Delay, Mod, and Reverb.
Not as many routing options as the G-Force but sound-wise I think they are similar and it's much less expensive.
