I'm convinced that the reason there is a padauk spacer in the neck pocket of Tiger is so that Doug could fit each neck to the guitar which gave him some latitude when placing the bridge and/or cutting the neck. I am less precise then what others mention. I take a 1/4" thick piece of wood and stick it to the fretboard at the first fret. Then I set my tablesaw fence for a 1.25" cut and run the neck through the saw with the fretboard against the fence. That gives me a slight neck angle then I use the spacer to fine tune the height relative to the bridge and the pickups. Its worked on 80+ instruments for me.
