Actually no one said anything about killing smokie. Here is the quote from Hurley to Richard: "She said you have to stop the main in black - you have to stop him from leaving the island - because if you don't we'll all go to hell"

I don't think Hurley has the sickness - actually I think he is one of the leading "candidates" to replace Jacob. As for smokie I don't think he can be killed - he just has to stay "corked' on the island. Great episode with lots of religious overtones. Looking a lot like Paradise Lost.....or the movie Dogma (my personal favorite analogy). Seven more episodes.....

If Jacob could die , could Smokie ?
Would there be a candidate for his job ?
Hurley is the good natured one .... and been under the radar as a Leader type .... good call on Hugo being the guy ....

Good call I wasn't clear on that either - Richard's question "is she gone" made it seem to us that he "felt her" - but either way I think the important message was - Richard is back with Jacob's side.

I am amazed I didn't see it coming. My wife looked at me while she was fiddling with the dynamite in the bag and said "she is toast". She was.

Again, the gratuitous violence is totally working for me. Didn't see the Desmond hit and run thing comin' either.

Love how all the candidates in the flash sideways are experiencing deja vu.

1) because Jack went back to try to stop him
2) I think it is flocke trying to make Jack think there is no such thing as free will.

anyone with any other ideas on this?

Maybe.
Locke needs them to get off the island or he we will need to find a new body and group he can leave with then ....

I think that the 'talking" thing has a very big part to play yet. Like Claire said to jack, "you are with him now because you talked to him " (I am paraphrasing).................... Remember the japanese guy who originally tried to get Sayid to kill Smocke and said to Sayid, "Dont let him talk to you, because if he does it is already too late" , Then in the Richard flashback episode the MIB said the same thing to Richard about going to kill Jacob "Dont let him talk to you"............

I don't think it is coincidence that Sun lost the ability to speak english and that when Smocke tried to communicate with her last night, she could only write, I think that is going to mean something down the road.

................also while it seems Like Hugo has been positioned as being on the "right side" and as good a candidate as anyone, there is one glaring item that stuck in my craw last night that makes me question what side Hugo is really on here.........

Like I said in the previous post, it has been very well established that just talking and or listening to smocke (in whatever form he is in at any time period) can have negative consequences (we do not know why or to what degree, but the writers have gone out of their way to bash that over our head a few times)......

anyway, in last weeks episode when the group of Sun/Jack/lapidas/Richard were looking to Hugo for their next step (after Illana blew herself up) Hugo's specific recommendation was " We need to go talk to him"
