Funny how most of the focus is on JM! I really don't like his voice but for me the weak point of Dead & Co is Oteil! Dude sounds NOTHING like Phil! He's just a random jam band bassist. Phil had a style the defined the Dead as much as Jerry. It's like JM playing like David Gilmour! Cool but doesn't fit nor drive the music....


Good lord . “ Just a random jam band bassist.” Are you even listening? I am not a big fan of their choice either, but Oteil at least tried to put some creativity into it. I love his chordal inclusions and his fills. Bob told him to “play black “ . Now I don’t thank a lot of that fits with Dead music, but really, who else were they gonna get that wasn’t going to copy Phil? That wasn’t the purpose.
