some of my faves not yet mentioned:

cold rain and snow (really fun, 2 chord song leaves plenty of room to play around)
jack straw
ship of fools
casey jones

The versions posted here are all very good, although if i remember correctly the intro riff for ship of fools should be played 2 frets higher or it will be in different key than the chords.

have fun!

Yes, indeed, this song sounds sound sweet acoustic. that asus2 chord is numbing. I go back between that and hitiing srtrings 1 thru 5 open.

Actually going by the Mars hotel version and a live version from 74 in Des Moines the whole song shown here has to be dropped down a whole step. Not sure why he titled it Mars Hotel when it obviously was tabbed from another version. But either way the song starts with Bb not C

I love playing Black Peter on my acoustic guitar. In my opinion it is the ultimate GD acoustic song. I really enjoy Me and My Uncle as well.

Didn't know the actual key, just knew it was inconsistent. Thanks for the tip! Just checked 5/18/77 and that is in Bb as well, guess thats how they always played it.

Nothing new, but I like to play Black Peter. Probably my fav to play acoustic. Also I finger pick a FOTD>Rider. Ripple sometimes, but I just can't seem to sing on key with that one. Cassisdy is fun as well.

Also, I was messing around with DADGAD over the wknd, and started trying to arrange Terrapin. I'll let y'all know if I come up with anything interesting there.

I play almost everything acoustic, including: Dark Star, Casey Jones, Morning Dew, and China Cat Sunflower. My favorites though are: Spanish Jam>Me & My Uncle and Friend Of The Devil>I Know You Rider and Black Peter>Bird Song.

I like Sittin' In Limbo, even though it's not Dead.

I only play acoustic, so I play every Dead song acoustic. :)

But I think the original question was a good Dead, easy acoustic song. When I was a-first a-learning, I spent a lot of time learning the following:

Uncle John's Band
Monkey & The Engineer
Ripple
Dire Wolf (that was always kinda troublesome at first, but I persevered)
Me & Bobby McGee
The Race Is On

All kinda easy and all to fun play.
