I have searched the topic but would like more info!

I have been talking with Matt and I am getting close to pulling the trigger on a wolf. Has anyone on here played one or own one? I am more looking for details on playability and feel more than anything. If you have any input you could lend I would appreciate it! Anyone have close up pics?

On a side note, I do not play in a Dead cover band but we do cover a few dead tunes. I was thinking of forgoing the wolf inlay because I do not do the Dead full time. I don't want to be cliche if you know what I mean. I love the look of the guitar and the connection to Garcia. What do you guys think?

I have never played one, but from what I havw seen his guitars look so good to me. If I had the money I would get the Wolf from him, and I would leave off the Wolf emblem like you are thinking of doing. It would still be a Jerry Guitar, and you would know that, but it, and you, would not be pidgeon holed as a Jerry copy.

That is exactly what I was thinking! I was also thinking about using the Eagle around the earth for the headstock logo like on tiger just to spice it up a bit!

I'm sitting here with a Moriarty Wolf in my lap as I type this message (it's not mine, wish it was). Matt's work is really spectacular. The closer in you look, the more you appreciate his precision work and attention to fine detail. This is serious craftsmanship and luthiery. The feel of the neck is extremely playable, it kind of disappears in my left hand, and I really like that factor. If I were going for a Wolf clone, I wouldn't hesitate to go with Moriarty.

It will still be a beauty without the wolf. You could also go with something that adds a more personal touch. Lastly...it's a rude question but I'd really like to know without having to bother Matt...I'm probably not able to order one anytime soon...but...how much are we talking here???? His work looks beautiful.

If it were me, I would leave the Wolf off. Jerry didn't request the Wolf inlay, he just put a sticker on it. Who knows, he might have changed it to a Madonna sticker later on. No, on second thought Weir would have done that. lol

It looked beautiful "naked". I saw it up close in Providence in 1973 and it was rather stunning sans sticker/inlay.

You need to get in touch with Ruklick, he owns a Moriarty wolf. John posted some pictures of it on Matt's website. John is really cool and would probably answer any of your questions. Ruklick goes by drkstrcrashes on this forum, so if you pm'd him you could chat. I asked Matt a few years ago on prices for the Wolf and Tiger guitars and if I remember it was like 6000 for a Wolf and maybe 8000 for a Tiger. It has been awhile and I don't remember the exact prices, not cheap though.

Has anyone had the opportunity to play a Moriarty and an Andrew Olson wolf? Would be interested to hear a comparison because these luthiers seem to be producing the most accurate wolves out there
