Yo CasperV-dude when havent I seen Jerry using his picks and fingers at the same time in a solo?Dude he loves chicken picking!With a pick or without a pick..Yeah he palms the pick a lot,but he def. uses the combo all the time.

Been awhile since I watched any Dvds,but I'll check tonight.Not so far fetched since Jerry was a master at the Banjo...the solo from Box o Rain comes to mind right now...you may be right...he is missing part of a finger...but using your fingers w/ a flat pick is nothing new...esp. for a guy who loves the banjo and Tele licks....

Jerry hybrid picks all the time. Mainly in rhythm parts like Althea but if you want an example of a solo he hybrid picks in, check out the eyes of the world from view from the vault 1. I'm pretty sure that is the one, but you can distinctly see him using both the pick and his finger.

jerry finger picks althea, I think you guys are confusing him finger picking with hybrid picking, which is understandable because he could very quickly tuck his pick under his missing digit to finger pick

"Box of Rain"... ...featured two non-Dead members in crucial roles. Dave Torbert played bass, while Lesh played acoustic guitar. David Nelson plays the lead guitar with a Fender Telecaster equipped with a Parsons/White B-Bender, while Jerry Garcia plays the piano.

Yes. Or in Jerry's case, finger singular (the ring finger).

IMO, Nelson is one of the most underrated and truly original guitarists. Nobody else has those ideas that he has. He has that knack of making it sound almost primitive at times, but at the same time it gets clear he knows what he's doing. Listen to some current NRPS recordings, those are absolutely brilliant.
