Anyone else still use them? I’ve got a pair of Princeton Reverb builds... one 6V6 and the other 6L6. I grabbed a second and now both amps are in combo cabs. Feeling pretty settled at that volume level.

Wondering also. I love my JBL K120 in my Princeton but Id also like to shave off a few pounds and still get the general JBL tone and feel

When you do, sell me your K120 - I have a cab with an E120 I also want to shave some pounds from. :!:

Check out the Fat Jimmy C1270 speaker. Was looking for something to get me close to that Garcia territory without having to go the JBL route. I grabbed one & am happy with it. Another member on here sent me a couple back-to-back sound samples he made comparing the FJ C1270 to JBL K120... to me they are suprisingly close. Happy to pass the sound clips along if you message me your email.

I’ve got a couple 10’s. There are very nice. Need to spend more time with them... but would love to hear how this goodness (10’s) translates to 8 or 12’s.

Not sure the TTs would be that much lighter than the K120 - the K120 is pretty light compared to other speakers I’ve tried for the JBL tone

I actually have a Fat Jimmy A1260, which is probably pretty damn close to the C1270. While its a very nice speaker in its own right, its not a K120 replacement in my opinion. The K120 and K130 just have something else going on with that clean tone.

the TT is 7.7 pounds. The JBL is 14 pounds.

The K120 handles 150 watts. The TT Purple Haze is rated at 40 watts. Personally, I'd be scared to use a speaker rated at only 40 watts.

Agree that the FJ C1270 is not a replacement for a JBL... to me, it definitely gets respectable/in the ballpark Garcia tones when paired with an AB763 circuit though. To each their own though.

Oh okay I had a ceramic hemp cone TT that was 12 lbs - I guess the Alnico shaves some weight - The K120 is 14 lbs of the best tone that I have found in a speaker -

The Weber California 12A (Alnico) have pretty good tone - much better than their ceramic option which I didn’t care for. Neither touch the K120 though which is best in class IMHO

Also keep in mind that no matter how good the purple haze is it is ultimately a different tone than JBL because it is hemp and the JBL have aluminum domes - no matter what they are going to sound different because if this

Well if you are using solid state Power amps with pre amps (Alembic f2b or FYD) like many of us do - you are usually looking at 75W to 100W per channel
A Twin is 85W
Also I could be wrong but I assume that the more you push the limit of a speakers wattage the more likely it is to break up, which is not what you want - so more wattage would give you more headroom at high volume - probably no big deal for practice volumes

My tiny little Quilter 101 Reverb is 50 watts. My big rig employs a Carvin DCM200L which is 100 watts/channel. Even my new pedal power amp, the Carvin Mach 100, is 50 watts/channel. 40 watts is not a big amp. 40 watt rated speakers might work in a 2x12, but I wouldn't want all the power going to a single 12 rated at 40 watts.
