Anybody have experience with dedicated EQs (pedals, rack, etc) for bass tone shaping here?
Looking to get more power (talking sound descriptions, not signal strength) out of a passive-PUP bass.
I know the classic Alembic Superfilter was a big part of Phil tone shaping – whether standalone rack gear or installed in his basses... but at the end of the day it's a parametric style EQ with variable Q and Alembic prices are like Ferraris
I saw this Whirlwind bass graphic EQ that seems amazing – perfect frequency bands for shaping the tone, adjusting to the room, etc – as long as you and your ear are handy with EQ & frequency bands

Plus this discontinued Empress ParaEQ seems pretty SuperFilter-ish

I think a big 600Hz boost would be Leshy, not to mention being able to sculpt the low-end depending on the amp, the room, etc
Gear:
I've got an active Ibanez bass and can get it super Phil Leshy and it sounds great as-is.
And I've just picked up a new Guild Starfire bass and am finding the passive pickups to feel kind of weak in certain aspects, especially having gotten used to the active on-board EQ sound, especially the quacky pick attack.
Looking for a way to get more tone shaping & power out of the Guild's passive PUPs without going crazy and doing any on-board electronics mods etc
~cheers~
