Okay, here's a real interesting comparison. This is the same solo with the same setup, but instead of the Blackbird Drive channel you get the Script MXR Distortion Plus into the clean channel.

Interesting to hear the difference. Sorry for the screw up at the end :o

Alright Strumminix!
This ones for you. Here's another demo/comparison clip. Tried to capture more of that high end thing that the Shift Line does really well. Also, tilted the speaker cab up to reduce bass frequencies.

Its my Strat w/Voodoo 69 pickups > Shift Line Twin > Weber California Alnico (Aluminum Cap D120 clone)

First you will here the Whirlwind Gold Box (MXR), then the Proton EF w/blaster engaged on guitar, then just the guitar and blaster at the end.

So three different Jerry style tones here, not saying they are perfect by any means, but just thought you guys might find it interesting to check out the Shift Line in action - it takes pedals really well and sounds great with the blaster. Also these Voodoo 69s sound great as well IMHO.

This is my “upstairs rig, hence the different speaker and pedals.

HOT TAMALE! Your last 2 clips, Wil, are wonderful. The MXR vs drive channel was night and day and you got that JG snap cuz if it.

And just when I thought that was your best tone... you busted out the S-style. Firstly, BEAUTIFUL guitar. Secondly, that's my favorite of your tone samples. Think that best captures your voice while being in the JG zone :) Bravo!

Sorry - one more post on the Milkman.

This is a great demo showing the difference between the 50 and 100. It appears that the preamp is voiced very differently, so the 50 sounds and behaves more like a lower power tube amp. So please make sure to specify which one. I have the 100, and it has endless clean headroom and I've been very happy with it. From this demo, I don't think the 50 would work for me.

I previously thought the one difference between the two was the output power and the presence of trem vs boost. But that is clearly not the case. So if you tried a 50 for that Garcia tone, I can see where you might have come up short.

Interesting video, thanks for sharing.

Re: the reverb on the 100, am I correctly hearing some amount of modulation ("chorusy" sound) hard-wired into the reverb decay?

We have a new entry! This one, according to its builder, "is based on the legendary Alembic F-2B preamp."

Question re: the Shift Line MkIIIS - am I correct that the cab switch/sims apply solely to the balanced out and do not impact the 1/4" out?

Listened to this again. It's definitely my fave for tone of the clips you've posted so far in this thread. In response, I submitted my name and e-address to the waiting list for the Shift Line MKiiis.

I believe so, but I just keep it off anyway. I havnt use led it for going direct. Nick might have a better answer to this though since he goes direct.

I think you will be happy with the Shiftline! It’s a one trick pony but it does the trick VERY well. And if you ever want to go direct you will now have that option as well. There are some really good cab sims available with JBL speakers.

So after signing up a couple of months ago, I receive this email directly from Shiftline:

"Hello,

This is an update on the availability of the Shift Line TwinMkIIIS preamp. You're receiving this message because you've requested this update from our website.

The Twin MkIIIS preamps will be available for order within 1-3 days. If you're ready to make the purchase, please let us know and we'll send you a PayPal invoice.

Just a reminder: the preamp will be shipped from Saint Petersburg, Russia. The buyer is responsible for paying any import duties applicable. Postal services are still working slowly after C19 shutdowns.

Thank you!
Oleg."

Are they nuts?! What do they think I am, an import-export business?!

No thanks, I'll pass.

I also signed up with Shift Line's single US distributor to be notified when they, too, have it back in stock. If they, too, eventually send me a notice of available, I'll reconsider then.
